The concept for THE ENGINE is a breathtaking ode to the very essence of its surroundings, drawn from the rich tapestry of history and the boundless horizons of innovation. It envisions nothing less than the resplendent rebirth of the venerable Kingston Railway Station, uniting it with a visionary residential dimension.

Picture, if you will, the spectacle of a high-speed locomotive hurtling forward at breakneck speed, carrying the entire heritage of the train terminal with it, a majestic chariot propelling us towards an electrifying future!

In its unwavering quest for carbon neutrality, The Engine reaches out and seizes the very power of the sun itself to propel its services into uncharted territories.

It also deploys an arsenal of passive sustainable strategies, exemplified by the blade-like façade, mirroring the form and function of a radiator to cool the inner sanctum of its being. Brace yourself, for we stand on the precipice of an extraordinary journey into the uncharted realms of Kingston in the year 2092.

The Portal Museum of History, located in Downtown Kingston, Jamaica is a stunning tribute to the diverse and complex story of human civilization. From the first civilizations of Mesopotamia to the modern era, this museum brings visitors on a captivating journey through the ages.

The museum’s unique form is inspired by the architecture of ancient ziggurats and Mayan temples, creating a striking visual experience that complements the museum’s rich and varied exhibits. Upon entering, visitors are greeted with a grand exhibition hall that serves as a gateway to the rest of the museum. As they explore the museum, they will travel through time and space, encountering different cultures and societies, and learning about their customs, beliefs, and achievements.

One of the museum’s most significant features is its comprehensive collection of artifacts, ranging from ancient pottery and jewelry to modern art. Visitors can expect to see treasures from every corner of the world, including Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Americas.

Design Manifesto The concept for this single-family residential home on Garelli Avenue is a testament to the harmonious coexistence of creativity and family living. Rooted in an industrial contemporary aesthetic, the house proudly embraces the raw beauty of concrete and steel finishes, imparting an edgy, yet inviting atmosphere.

Tailored to accommodate two adult sisters, both passionate fashion designers, and their green-thumbed elderly mother, the design encourages a seamless blend of work and life. The presence of an in-house fashion design studio offers a space for the sisters to unleash their creativity, while the manicured garden surrounding the home provides a serene oasis for the mother’s gardening pursuits.

Situated within close proximity to the renowned fashion hub of Pulse, this residence is more than just a home – it’s a platform for artistic expression and a showcase for their fabric creations. The backyard runway enables the sisters to host events that not only reflect their fashion prowess but also foster a sense of community and creative exchange. At its heart, this dwelling is a living, breathing testament to the intersection of family, fashion, and innovation.

Design Manifesto The primary objective of this project was to envision a clinic that deviates from the typical healthcare facility norm. We sought to transcend the mundane aesthetics of conventional clinics, typically characterized by monotonous gray hues adorning the walls. This endeavor offered a unique canvas to craft spaces that would instill a deep sense of tranquility in patients, allowing them to depart reinvigorated.

To alleviate the inherent tension associated with clinical visits, we placed significant emphasis on the functional aesthetics of the environment. Recognizing the adverse connotations tied to clinical spaces marked by cramped, chilly, and poorly lit corners, we aimed to establish an enduring facility that radiates warmth and hospitality, serving as a sanctuary for patient rejuvenation.

Furthermore, our strategic proximity to educational institutions presented a compelling opportunity to proactively provide educational services, designed to instill in the younger generation the importance of self-preservation, encompassing both their mental and physical well-being.

Project Manifesto • The project’s objective is to create a housing program that integrates a harmonious set of spaces, enhancing the quality of life for residents.

• Diverse unit types are available, including apartments and row houses, alongside communal areas catering to various lifestyles.

• Prioritizing scenic views, especially to the north mountains and the proposed park nearby, will determine the arrangement of housing blocks.

• Recreational amenities like elevated terraces, a gym, a pool, and green spaces will encourage fitness and social gatherings.

• The project’s target audience consists of young professionals and small families seeking a balanced work-play lifestyle.

• The project’s aesthetic approach aims to contrast the dull gray tones of the commercial surroundings with a softer, mellow ambiance, achieved through clean, light facades featuring timber and vegetation accents.

Conceptualization The central concept guiding this project was the development of a residential complex tailored to meet the needs of a contemporary, active lifestyle. The residents would enjoy an array of recreational amenities, including a fitness center, a swimming pool, and a multi-tiered terrace featuring covered, semi-open, and outdoor areas. The site’s zoning was meticulously planned to optimize panoramic views to the north while harmonizing with the contextual elements influencing the perimeter’s design response.

Positioned southwest of the park, the site boasts a distinctive diagonal connection, strategically leveraging pedestrian access points. This axis intersects with the residential activity trail, culminating at the lobby, which serves as a threshold not only for the individual dwellings but also for the aforementioned entertainment and exercise facilities. The dwelling units have been meticulously designed to maximize vistas of the John Crow Mountains and the neighboring park. Each unit type offers generously proportioned living spaces, laundry facilities, and a coveted study area, enabling residents to work comfortably from their homes.

Crafted from sustainable timber, this shelter, perched gracefully above a tranquil pond, welcomes visitors, especially young students, into a dynamic classroom where the interplay of wildlife and the environment comes to life.

This living educational sanctuary is more than just a structure; it’s an opportunity to inspire, educate, and kindle a profound connection with our planet’s ecosystems, embodying the zoo’s mission and leaving an indelible mark on the next generation.
