Amidst significant challenges, a dedicated group of Haitian educators is working tirelessly to shape the lives of their students and build a brighter future for their nation. Through their passion, resilience, and unwavering belief in the power of education, these educators are making a profound impact on their communities.
As special needs teacher, Djenasselie Dulorier shares, “I chose the teaching profession because it is a pleasure. I take pride in teaching the kids who are forming a future.” Sixth grade teacher Jocethène Decius echoes this sentiment, referencing Nelson Mandela’s famous quote about education being the most powerful weapon for change. Inspired by her own positive experiences with teachers, Sheesling Alexandra Israel chose to become a teacher, “so I can contribute well to bring transformation for my country, Haiti.”
Despite the challenges they face, these educators remain steadfast in their commitment to their students
and their country. Venia Jean, a special needs teacher, shares, “I want to help grow roots to train kids in society so we can become a different country.” Nerlande Saintilus, recognizing the potential in her students, strives to help them, with the idea that one of her students could be “a Doctor, a Pastor, a Nurse, an Engineer.”
The teachers’ love for their students is evident in their words. As a PS2 teacher, Mirguelita Noel expresses her affection for children, saying, “I love kids. I love to work with them.” Elimene Fleuridor, a PS1 teacher, believes that with the right nurturing, students can “advance so tomorrow our society will be a better place.” Nicole Millien shares a similar vision, hoping to “raise up the kids to find a better quality education so they can help the country and to become good citizens tomorrow.”
Many of our teachers were inspired by their own mentors and teachers, recognizing the profound impact they had on their lives. This experience motivates them to

Working in the department of education gives me satisfaction when I can assist with the kids who are the HOPE of the country.
provide similar guidance and support to their students. As Patricia Souverin, a PS3 teacher helper, put it, “I want to see Haiti change and I have a love for kids. This is what made me enter into the education field.”
Many Hands’ school Secretary, Lourdenie C. Jean Baptiste, recognizing the potential in every child, says, “Working in the department of education gives me satisfaction when I can assist with the kids who are the HOPE of the country.” Francoise Marcelus, a 3rd grade teacher, echoes this sentiment, stating, “We want this generation to advance so they can equip the country with change; so the country can become better.”
In addition to their ongoing efforts, Many Hands’ Haitian educators have successfully completed their third year of P4H training. This year, 34 teachers from the School of Light and our partner school in Maliarette participated in the training, and the teachers were enthusiastic about the program. Moving forward, it is up to Micul Pierre, Principal at the School of Light, and the teachers to implement what they have learned and participate in the follow-up from P4H. It’s always exciting when our teachers want to continue their own learning journey!
A special thank you to our teachers in Haiti. Their passion makes our mission possible.
The recent goat distribution in Maliarette and Jean Boule for families has been a resounding success, bringing joy, hope, and tangible benefits to those communities. This initiative aligns with our ongoing commitment to supporting families in need of food security while empowering them at the same time.
The distribution in Jean Boule was particularly noteworthy. The two communities, Benjamin and Guimby, located in the mountainous region, had likely never witnessed such a large number of goats in the hands of their fellow community members. The sight of these animals, symbols of prosperity and self-sufficiency, was both inspiring and empowering.
Claudin Augustin, Head of Agronomy, emphasized the significant impact the goat distribution has on the First 1,000 Days program. The distribution in
the Jean Boule area elicited numerous testimonies from grateful recipients, underscoring the program’s effectiveness in supporting the vital goals of First 1,000 Days, which in Creole is, Premye Mil Jou or PMJ for short. This program focuses on a child’s first 1,000 days of life and the importance of good nutrition. The program aims to improve the health and well-being of mothers and children by providing access to better nutrition, health care, protection, stimulation, and spiritual development.
The goat distribution in Maliarette and Jean Boule is a testament to our dedication to empowering families and fostering positive change. As these animals thrive and provide their owners with a sustainable source of income and nutrition, we can anticipate a brighter future for the communities we serve.
We are thrilled to highlight several key partnerships that have greatly enhanced our capabilities in Abaco over the past few months.
In August, Matthew 25 Ministries made a generous donation and sent their first shipping container to us, which included 40 pallets of materials, including a variety of home paper products, diapers, linens, shampoo, deodorant, notebooks, and more. This invaluable support has enabled us to expand our outreach initiatives and continue to provide essential supplies to those in need.
Prime Fleet Services graciously offered their services to maintain and repair our organization’s vehicles over the next two years. This collaboration ensures that our team can operate efficiently, allowing us to focus on our mission without interruption.
In August, we had the privilege of hosting our second Convoy of Hope Field Team based in Austin, TX. The team dedicated a week to serving our community, providing invaluable support to New Rehoboth Ministries. Their skilled volunteers shared their carpentry, gardening, and landscaping talents, significantly enhancing the church’s facilities and surrounding areas. This partnership exemplifies the power of
community collaboration and the impact we can make together.
We are so thrilled to share that we have welcomed over 330 Impact participants to Abaco thus far in 2024, with projections indicating that we will reach 410 by year’s end. Our Impact trips continue to connect incredible people through experiences and stories, allow all to experience God’s love in action through community. We are grateful for their role in fostering this engagement.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to all our partners and supporters for their dedication and commitment to our mission. These are crucial to our growth and will continue to enhance our reach in Abaco, helping us make a greater difference in the lives of those we serve.
As we reflect on the five years since Hurricane Dorian, we honor the incredible dedication and drive of the Abaconians who have continued to press forward amidst adversity. Their resilience serves as an inspiration to us all, and we remain committed to supporting their journey toward recovery and growth.
On Thursday, September 19th, Many Hands hosted the 6th annual Pignon in Pella fundraising event. This year’s event was a resounding success, bringing together the Pella community to support education and empowerment in Pignon, Haiti.
The evening began with an opening prayer and heartfelt message from Tyler Kamerman, Chief Development Officer for Many Hands, followed by a powerful address from Tim Brand, CEO and Founder. Brand shared inspiring stories of the transformative impact of education on the lives of Haitian children and their families. He emphasized the importance of providing a comprehensive education, from early childhood to high school, to break the cycle of poverty and create a brighter future.
During dinner, guests had the opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions about the role of education in their own lives. Participants were asked to reflect on their personal educational experiences, the impact
of education on their career paths, and the ways in which education has shaped their worldview. These conversations fostered a sense of community and helped attendees appreciate the value of education on a deeper level.
A highlight of the event was a captivating video featuring Bev Brand and Melissa Kauk, two dedicated educators who have played a crucial role in training Haitian teachers, which has led to a better educational experience for kids in the classroom. Their personal accounts of the positive changes they have witnessed in Haiti were deeply moving and inspiring.
