Automatic Tool Changer - Innovation in Manufacturing Industry In the ever-evolving scenario of the manufacturing industry, the difference between the ideation stage and execution stage and production of material holds prime importance. The higher the efficiency, the quicker the production. Let’s see how it works. What is ATC and How It Works? ATC is engineered to improve the tool carrying capacity and hence the production of CNC machine tools. Complex machines are made to work with a large number of tools simultaneously which manually is hardly possible and even if it is, it’s time-consuming. It not only reduces the manual maneuver to change end tools but also promotes the working of simultaneous multiple tools to improve the pace of production. The working mechanism of ATC ACT works through the use of software, which is entrenched in a microcomputer or a computerized magazine, which contains graphics of a collection of tools, which can be accessed without any manual interference. An automatic tool changer comprises of supporting arms and a tool holder, gripper, and a base and surely a tool magazine. As soon as the machine received tool changing command, the tools will be set on “tool change position”. Then, the ATC arm picks the pool from the respective position and spins between magazine and machine turret. With its side grippers, tools are changed, the older tool is picked from the turret and the newer one will be placed on its due position.

Different technologies are utilized to work with the CNC tool changers and Robot tool changers. Where on one hand, CNC tool changers hold tools using a gear- or cam-driven arm, which brings it closer to machines spindle, on the other hand, automatic robot tool changers are given with
