Asedio y Granito

Winter 2023
final thesis project
The master’s degree final project “Asedio y Granito”, awarded with honors, is structured around the idea of conceiving a written architecture project and a communication strategy of the discourses dealt with by the texts themselves. The theoretical corpus around the project idea is nourished by the conversations on the notion of hauntology and new materialisms.
Absence appears as the basic and fundamental unit of the project and the question of how we should face the task of drawing and graphing it becomes the methodology of the whole work.

active spaces (24h shooting sets) and server spaces (routes and circulations). The filming sets are prepared and motorized to continuously reproduce some of the frames of different video clips with which pop culture has (re)produced the aforementioned “aesthetics of the fence”.

The client is the Mercat de las Flors institution itself and the Barcelona City Council, which aims to promote and recover through specific interventions the memory of the building and the Margarita Xirgú square complex. Understanding memory as materiality and time, we will work with the juxtaposition of cultural strata of the complex. Materiality will be explored as a constant becoming between the digital and reality in which representation is key: rendering, texturization, trompe l’oeil. What is the relationship between architecture and its representations, in particular, with digital visualizations of itself and vice versa? The project does not pretend to give solutions or answer any questions, but to formulate them.

Foodscapes is a journey into the architectures that feed the world; from the domestic laboratories of our kitchens to the vast operational landscapes that nourish our cities. At a time when debates about energy are more pertinent than ever, food remains in the background, yet the way we produce, distribute and consume it mobilizes our societies, shapes our metropolises and transforms our geographies more radically than any other energy source. Foodscapes explores the present of our food systems to look to the future and wonder about other possible patterns; ones capable of feeding the world without devouring the planet.

Air, which used to be considered empty, was revealed to be occupied by microbes – but also by rules, fear, respect, speech and more. All these elements have created invisible walls and limited access to other human bodies. Sometimes, bubbles were formed; at other times, contextual complexities were added in order to calibrate “safety”. Air was reconfigured from a physical entity to a sociopolitical structure. The dimensions that regulate safety – 1, 1.5, 2 metres – have fluctuated over time and across jurisdictions, responding not so much to research findings but to negotiations with labour unions and hospitality managers. Through measurements that only appear to be well defined, social and economic risk has been managed across the world. And yet, what bodily and affective separations were unraveled?

Chukiteo
Creative direction and scenography for the monthly party “Chukiteo”, hosted by dj Flaca at Sala 1 Razzmatazz. The party seeks closeness with the audience and for that purpose the stage is moved to the center of the dance floor where the performances take place at ground level looking for a more intense and shared experience. In addition, we work in a new art concept designed for each date in order to change the space and give it a special character of its own.

Spectrality, as a metaphor for spaces that escape our perception and our understanding, relates to a web of invisible worlds that stalk the limits of our physical body and our perceptive system. In angel dangerously owl les artistes propose a spectral materiality as an ethic of disorientation. A sensibility that seeks to provide the current time with a collective dimension instead of a productive one, repetitive instead of linear, and reflexive instead of progressive
