Description: Within the main architectural composition of modern day cities, it is possible to identify educational infrastructure as one of the main elements in the urban landscape. The Green Building atelier, identifies a series of school typologies that are repeated and distributed around the city of Torino. These typologies were built during the 60ths, a period of high demand for educational infrastructure, which led to fast solutions for the construction of school buildings. However, efficient these school models could have been in the past, they have started to show an insufficient performance in relationship with emerging methodologies and educational models, distribution and use of spaces, and building sustainability. In this specific case, the project is based on one of the many existing typologies in Torino (Lancia Topology – Castellino 10). Moreover, to tackle the problematics related to this specific school, the design process included a series of changes in order to achieve a sustainable and efficient functioning, both in terms of its architectural needs and physical performance of the building. The development of the project comprehends the general redistribution of spaces and uses, a new design for the façade and envelope and a new approach for the exterior areas that surround the building and allow it to connect with its surroundings.

Atelier: Habitat XXI Century
Location: Bogotá, Colombia
Year: 2019
Description: The Atelier Habitat of the XXI Century is developed around the idea of articulation between modern day and future housing, in addition to existing and emerging functions of the expanding city. The main aim of the design strategy, regards the promotion of a productive habitat, in which, residential units cohabitate with mixed uses such as commercial and office spaces. Furthermore, public space plays a crucial role as a link between the activities, not only in the ground floor areas but in the higher levels of the complex as well in the shape of platforms and spaces for communal activities, . The landscape design gives the possibility to implement productive areas for urban agriculture and sustainable solutions regarding nature base strategies. The building includes residencial, commercial and office spaces, in the serch of a more compact and efficent way of inhabiting the expanding areas of the urban perimeter.

Regarding the urban vision for to project it was crucial to consider the restructuring and reuse of existing infrastructures in the most relevant point of connection between Missaglia and the other municipalities of the province. Furthermore, a quantitative and qualitative contribute of effective public space for the community as a response to the lack of general public space, predominance of vehicular and private infrastructure.
The architectural design itself features the creation of spaces for exchange and interaction between the productive/ working community and the elderly population, regarding the 3 sustainable aspects, social, economic, environmental with a project responsive towards an existing phenomenon (constant aging population) in a local and provincial level regarding to residential proposal + services for the community in the center of the city as a response to an unplanned urban spread. The architectural program is composed by a residential and recreational project for the elderly, integrating it with commercial uses for the rest of the community of the town. The circulations where carefully designed considering the population with reduced mobility and their transition from public to private areas of the building. Moreover, the public space design opens up a main square, collecting the main flows from the street, improving the general profile and allowing a permeable relationship, serving the community as an outdoor market, a gathering space and a garden.

Description:
Developed in collaboration with Architecture Studio AGRA (Anzallini García - Reyes), Project Code: AMEM Amazonía Emprende
Location: Florencia, Caqueta, Colombia
Year: 2021
The project was mainly designed as a sensible landscaping intervention, for the continuation of a larger series of infrastructures for sustainable tourism, developed in the region of Florencia, Caquetá, Colombia. The design is oriented towards a vernacular architecture, with materials and techniques traditional from the area, making the construction process easier, more efficient and sustainable. The architectural program itself is quite simple, consisting on an outdoor kitchen, dining areas and a landscaping intervention to connect everything together with the green natural context that surrounds the project. The design concept corresponds to wooden modules that allow a free disposition of the covered areas, in order to take advantage of the natural landscape and play with the steep topography of the plot. The modules are connected by a pedestrian pathway that allows the outdoor activities to connect to one another. Furthermore, taking in account the limited economic and material resources the project kept a simple but sustainable approach, providing exact information regarding quantities and material prices for the whole construction.
