Our tenth issue marks an exciting time for us with both a magazine redesign and brand re-fresh. We decided to test the limits of our newly minted look and feel with a 300 page issue. Yeah there is no shortage of style inspiration for Summer in this issue guys. I want to thank John Kunichika for teaming up to help with a fresh take on MAN OF METROPOLIS. I’m super proud of it. When we got started in 2015, DETAILS magazine was shutting down, then MAN of the WORLD stopped doing prints and last summer L’UOMO Vogue shuttered their title. C’mon guys, we need a men’s fashion magazine. A cool, American one!

I’d like to think my affinity for hanging around Borders and Barnes & Noble with a latte on Friday nights when I was growing up earned me a few stripes but in all honesty, I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I created MAN OF METROPOLIS almost three years ago. Good intentions aside, I had marketable skills, an education, and fashion sense. Can I say something?

Publishing is an interesting business right now. So 10 issues in I feel like I am getting the hang of this thing. I’ve learned a lot from watching and listening to others like Bergdorf Goodman's Men’s Fashion Director Bruce Pask. I’m thrilled and honored that Goodman’s invited us into their space to shoot, ‘Shopping Habit’ for this issue. I also learn from the kids who run the street style movement.

I keep up on the business of fashion thanks to twitter and email blasts and lately I spend way too much time window shopping at Dior, Louis Vuitton, and Hermès. So we’ve spent more time in the field, rubbed elbows with some of fashion’s experts and taken notes from today’s leading brands in menswear trends and as a result we bring you some of our best fashion stories to date. Thanks to an army of creatives, well executed market reports by Javon Drake and casting that reflects today’s American man -- diverse in color, age, and attitude.

This issue embarks on A Color Odyssey, where fast cars, scenic destinations, and urban settings are infused with high fashion moments. Beyond the artistic direction, we really focused on making content that matters to you, the reader. In the marketing world we ask, ‘does it perform’? Yes, we want it to look cool, but I'm hoping we can stop the scroll; gain new readers and followers who will experience and engage with us everywhere. Not an easy feat in this world of thirst traps, celebrity endorsed posts, and cinemagraph ADS selling 4 weeks to a six-pack, a teeth straightening gadget, or a juice cleanse. So with that quick explanation; we are focusing on elevating and diversifying our content to grow MAN OF METROPOLIS! Hopefully it will attract more readers.

No, we don’t want to sell our soul, or focus on the lowest common denominator, but we are paying attention to what you like, and what you want. For the sake of art – we will take some chances along the way and try to have some fun too.

We have some great interviews with cover star Nyle DiMarco and country singer Nikki Lane. We also sit down with Perry Ellis Creative Director Michael Maccari who tells us more about the collection, the brand DNA, and what inspires him. Finally, enjoy some great travel, style and fitness advice from some of the best menswear and lifestyle personalities in the industry.

I was scouted by a boutique agency in Manchester having just finished school that summer at the age of 18.

I Did you play any sports in school?

Best summer memory growing up?

What kind? Or what do you do for fun?

The summer after finishing my first set of important exams (GCSEs) and having the free time to do whatever I wanted and partying with my friends, it was so nice to not have a stress or care in the world!

I was a well rounded sportsperson throughout school and took part playing rugby, cricket and also athletics in the summer but my passion was for football or “soccer” I should say. This took up must of my time as a teenager during and after school.

If you could star in Mission Impossible or Deadpool which would you star in and why?

Oh that’s easy, Deadpool for sure. I’m a fan of Mission Impossible but Deadpool tops it. Wade Wilson and I would definitely have great banter I could for sure be his trusty sidekick.

What are your plans for the summer?

My plan for the summer is to travel, enjoy the sunshine on a beach and just chill.

Then also finally getting myself back to New York!

Best summer memory growing up?

I got scouted in a music festival back in Buenos Aires when I was 18 years old.

My best summer growing up was in the beach in Argentina when I was 17. I went there with my family and my friends and we had so much fun. We went to the beach during the day and we went out during the night. It was so good.

Did you play any sports in school?

I used to practice kick boxing during high school. I also played football during the weekends with my friend for fun.

That’s a good one. I think I would prefer to star in Mission Impossible because I

would love to share a film set with Tom Cruise. That would be an unforgettable experience.

What are your plans for the summer?

My plans for the summer are going to visit to my sister in Bocas del Toro, Panama.

After that I will go back to Buenos Aires for a couple of weeks to visit my friends and my family.

Yes I did. I played many kinds of sports, but basketball was my favorite. I tried to get on the basketball team, but I was studying fine art in high school and my teacher wasn’t happy to see me join basketball team. He said “Your hands suppose to be only for drawing, not for basketball!”, but it didn’t reduce my passion for it. tI played with my friend after school, and we won a lot of pick up basketball games.

a prison guard and it gave me a chance to see a different world. I heard a lot of stories inside and saw how limited their movement was. It’s made me realize how precious my life is. How did you get scouted?

At the age of 18 I arrived to USA for an exchange program, I was on my way to upstate NY, waiting for the next train to Albany at Penn station, some stranger approached me there and asked if I was interested in modeling, I didn’t understand what he wanted because of the language barrier until three months later.

I played tennis a lot during my high school years, but that passion of mine was over shortly after city officials would start interrupt in the middle of our training by taking over the tennis courts for their own whim.

Best summer memory growing up?

Road trip with family in the Caucasus.

It was a very memorable and inspiring journey to the land of merciless rocks,

What are your plans for the summer?

This summer I’m trying to focus more on personal film projects, continue to work hard in the field of my main occupation, visit my family back home and hopefully clean up my backyard.

The Starting Line: MM: Before you were a country bombshell and vintage fashion purveyor what were you doing when you were 17/18 years old?

NL: Planning my escape from South Carolina. When I was 18 I was working at a bar full time while taking classes at a local college. After about 4 days of classes I panicked and started planning for California.

Albums & Lyrics: MM: “All or Nothin’” has a groovy funky feel and of course that gritty western authentic sound, and might we add has an incredible live version on the deluxe version too. You have this buttery, dreamy, sexy, pouty vocal, but the lyrics and guitar are very in your face and strong, same feeling we get from Right Time. There is a question coming we promise… Can you tell us about your influences and sound, it is so new yet so classic and throwback?

NL: I was listening to a lot of John Prine, a lot of JJ Cale, and a lot of this band called Natural Child during that period. Not that any of that particularly shows through, but I was digging those tunes while working with my producer to develop something unique for me. He was influential in helping me pick sonic influences that were more obscure.

MM: Maybe this is obvious, but did you write Highway Queen while on the road? OR where were you when you wrote it?

Who are you singing about in Highway Queen?

NL: Highway Queen was my first album that was written entirely on the road. I was nearly run ragged, but things were just starting to get moving in my career so I wanted to keep the momentum going. The character of Highway Queen was half written about the alias I could take on every night. As far as who else I was talking about, I was sorting out my first long distance relationship from the road while having to swallow the news of people talking shit.

So I addressed those things accordingly.

NL: One of my favorite gems is a spot called Style Station down near Waco, Texas. The owners Art and Rebecca have one of the best stashes in the country and I stop in every time I pass by.

NL: Any night at Pappy and Harriet’s or in the Yucca Valley desert near Joshua Tree. I started going there as a patron and some of the most fun nights in my life have been playing there.

Same goes for US #1 in Chicago. You wouldn’t think the Windy City would have one of the best western stashes, but Dominic is an even bigger collector of western wear than me and my buddies, and that’s saying a lot.

If you haven’t noticed we are living in a hyper-visual world; there are more reality television stars than ever before and every day it seems insta-famous people pop-up out of nowhere. If you are searching for a bright spot in this saturated world of media personalities than Nyle DiMarco will bring you hope. Yes the winner of both America’s Next Top Model season 22 and Dancing With The Stars season 22 has been seen a few times without his shirt, but don’t let his sexy stare and model good looks fool you Nyle DiMarco is a force for change and is using his fame and platform for good.

DiMacro added producer to his name this year as Children Of A Lesser God hits Broadway starring Joshua Jackson and Lauren Ridloff and started his own foundation that raises awareness and funds for deaf people around the world. Look out! Here comes Nyle DiMarco. We sat down with Nyle the day of his cover shoot for MAN of METROPOLIS. MM: Do you ever daydream about your time on America’s Next Top Model & Dancing with the Stars? That is a very visible way to “grow-up” in front of America, let alone come out?

What memories come flooding in when you think about both experiences? Did you keep any of the clothes or costumes?

ND: I’ll admit I do day dream about my time on ANTM and DWTS. More about how I surprised myself with my capabilities that I never thought I had. And, mostly about how my Deaf community supported and positively reacted… it was validation that I was doing the right thing and that this was destined to happen to me.

I wanted to keep some of the clothes but both shows wouldn’t let me!

MM: Best Memory or Lesson from ANTM:

ND: The very first day of ANTM, Tyra Banks marched down the runway on Hollywood Blvd with thousands of eyes on her and told us all, “Never take NO for an answer.”

And to this day, I still live by that quote.

There is a lot of uncertainty in the entertainment world in regards to having a Deaf person involved in creating projects or being in them. Some people might be hesitant to cast or bring on a Deaf person, possibly due to a presumption about inability, but I’m not going to take no as an answer. I know that not only are we more than able, but we have a lot to offer.

MM: Best Memory or Lesson from DWTS:

ND: To be honest, I surprised myself every week on a live stage without being able to hear… and that is a friendly reminder that I can do absolutely anything if I set my mind to it.

MM: Hardest thing about being on TV?

ND: The burden of representing the Deaf community, since there are 360 million of us worldwide. It is a heavy burden but I am more than happy to take it on because I know I can improve the lives of Deaf people by hopefully breaking down stigmas and educating people about our culture. People are afraid or cautious of what they don’t understand, and we have a lot to share!

MM: How old were you when you saw your first play? What was the name of the play? What was the experience like as a deaf boy?

ND: Children Of A Lesser God was already on Broadway years before I was born. Heh! However, I watched the film when I was around ten and it made me feel valued. The scenes on the big screen reverberated to me and felt true. It was the first time I ever felt connected to a movie on a deeper level. I felt that being Deaf, there is value. It was also amazing seeing Deaf actors on the big screen, especially Marlee Matlin. That representation was extremely important because as a kid, it meant that Deaf people can do anything.

I told him not to feel bad because I couldn’t hear it, but that research has proved that deaf people have enhanced vision. The blue waves are extra stunning to our eyes. We see every little detail. MM: Theatre and the arts truly stirs the soul, and can often

now you are producing Children of a lesser God, you are up

MM: This issue is all about color, something you can see that stirs the emotions and also helps communicate ideas and feelings. Tell us about a time where color impacted you: could be a sunset, a view of the ocean. How did this moment impact you, where were you and what was the color?

ND: The baby blue color of the sea. I think it is where conversations usually happen. When I was 24, my hearing friend asked me if I wished I could hear. It was the first time I was ever asked that question and we were sitting by the ocean enjoying the view. That definitely impacted me and that color stands out in my mind.

Another time when I was at the gorgeous Zuma Beach, a friend

to a lot. Did you know you would be hear in this place of your life now? How does it feel. You are taking some giant leaps since some of the reality tv stuff, tell us how you decided to produce a play?

ND: If I could go back in time and tell my younger self that I would be doing all that, I would think I was crazy! It had never occurred to me, at all. I originally wanted to be a math teacher at a Deaf school and eventually move up the ranks toward the superintendent position. I wanted to inspire and implement pride in Deaf kids in loving who they are and that their future possibilities are endless despite the “inability” that society likes to make them feel. I feel honored and blessed. I strongly believe in having Deaf people involved in the production, especially when the story is about the Deaf. That is where true representation happens. So when I learned that Children of a Lesser God was going to Broadway, I immediately knew I wanted to get involved and bring my life experiences to the stage. When you have representation,

MM: We also know you have a foundation. The nyledimarcofoundation can you tell our readers what the mission is and what you are doing this Summer on behalf of the foundation?

ND: Our overall mission is to better 360 million Deaf lives worldwide. Our current goal is to work with and support another Deaf organization called LEAD-K, which stands for Language Equality and Acquisition for all Deaf kids (lead-k.org). We are working to end language deprivation among millions of Deaf kids by writing a legislation bill that ensures every Deaf child has access to language and have a healthy language acquisition before the age of five. The goal is language acquisition regardless of the language used, whether ASL or English or both. So far five states have passed bills… we’re hoping for all states in the near future!

MM: Since this is our Summer Issue; what is your idea of the perfect Summer date day? For example, a day at the fair, a picnic in the park, etc etc.

ND: A long hike in Malibu in the morning, then soak up some sun at a beach, and then a pint of beer at a brewery!

MM: It is no secret you are sexy, and comfortable in your own skin. What do you feel most sexy wearing? Is there a red carpet look, or a look in this photo shoot you felt most sexy or powerful? What was it and why?

ND: I am a simple man, really. It might sound ridiculous but I feel the most sexy in t-shirt, pegged jeans, and sneakers. It’s the simplicity that brings out the most, I think. Like the shot of me in the teal t-shirt and royal blue jeans, it’s one of my favorites and I think it really stands out!

MM: MAN of METROPOLIS is an idea that men, gay or straight and everything in-between can live a life that is elevated. How do you live an elevated life? What do you value most in this life?

ND: I value water. It solves a lot of problems. Two glasses of water first thing when I open my eyes every morning (I drink more than eight daily). I work out at the gym and stretch as much as I can. I enjoy time with myself as well for self-care, so I do things on my own: hiking, biking, watching TV. MM: What is on the horizon for Nyle DiMarco, what should we be looking out for?

ND: I am writing several TV shows and films. I strongly believe the importance of having Deaf decision makers behind the camera.

We’ve seen the success of many TV shows and films because of who the people are behind the camera and I’m ready to challenge myself and tell stories that speak to me. I’m excited about it!

I sat down with Michael Maccari the Creative Director of Perry Ellis in their New York showroom to talk about men’s fashion trends, his personal influences, and what men want in their closets.

The 1980s:

Perry was present and sort of the biggest, so it is always a reference point for us. We are really pushing it more towards the late 80’s now; as it turns into 90’s and what that is. For me it talks about shape, it talks about fleece, oversized and that sort of look couldn’t be more on trend right now.

The movie that changed your life:

I was on a shoot in Miami and we were talking about Eyes of Laura Mars starring Faye Dunaway. She sees death and she sees

this kinda of really dark pathway to death and murder, so its this mystery but the basis of it is super high style in the late 70’s. I think what she is wearing in it could be Perry Ellis. It looks so much like Perry Ellis, she is at her height of style and fashion and influence. Faye Dunaway looks amazing and the whole thing is really about fashion.

Actor who is revolutionizing menswear in his own way:

There’s a few of them. There are guys who have style, and there are guys who are styled by their stylists. There’s very few who have real style I think. It’s funny we just worked with Dan Stevens.

He loves clothes, he always wants to push it further than you want to push with him. He’s really into Doc Martins (he’s English) and loves the idea of his heritage. We just put him in that port stretch suit, and he wore a crazy pair of union jack Doc Martins with it

and a white shirt. He’s in his 30’s a slim and fit guy and has a really great personality. He really embodies what we are talking about a really confident but not taking himself too seriously kind guy. He’s a family guy has three kids and a wife and is bi-coastal. To me he’s the great new guy who is going to take over.

Innovation and technology have moved the industry forward but I always ask myself “what would Perry do” while encompassing the brand ideals of confidence and versatility but with a nod to irreverence.

Where is the Perry Ellis man going this Summer?

The album that gets your creative juices going:

I’ve been thinking about music and for sure I’ve been binging on Fisherspooner’s latest album. I met Casey a few months ago and was impressed with his energy and attitude towards life.

My past however does include rock opera- like sounds of Todd Rundgren but also Elton John’s Madmen Across the Water – his first album . Tiny Dancer is my all time favorite track .... but I’d be leaving out a very big part of the process if I didn’t mention Javier Peral, our DJ of choice who has done all of our show and presentation music. It’s a great collaboration as I throw song ideas at him and show him the clothes and talk through seasonal themes and messages. He then goes deep into his references and we have a series of listening sessions before he starts to mix. Leading up to the show, it’s all I listen to, do castings and style looks to the tracks. It’s a way to live with it and ultimately every season I reach that point of getting chills as it all comes together.

What is your go-to museum in New York City:

I love the MET Breuer, it has more edgy exhibitions now, a little more interesting stuff. The building itself is right in the middle of Madison Avenue, I’m so glad they didn’t turn it into condos because it is such an amazing space.

What is your secret weapon as Creative Director at Perry Ellis?

I think being here and my affinity for the brand from a really early age, I used to wear it when I didn’t even really know how or why it was cool, before I was even in fashion. We had a family member whose best friend was the VP of Merchandising alongside Perry when it was at it’s height. She came around for Sunday dinner and kinda of introduced us to the brand. So then it was like wearing the clothes, going to sample sales, going to Macy’s to buy the stuff. It was the type of thing where it was pretty classic stuff but it was a little bit twisted, I remember I had this plaid linen suit and the plaid print was gigantic, you couldn’t even see the repeat on your body. I remember my friends that were post college they would kind of look at me like ‘what the hell are you wearing’ it was kind of acceptable that was my work uniform at the time. I feel like have the history really deep inside of me, and his aesthetic really shaped me.

Honestly I do believe in pushing it forward while respecting and referencing the rich heritage of the brand. Each season I start with an idea that can encompass a cultural reference, artist ,etc and build in a vintage Perry idea -but in a future forward way. Timing has to be right and we’ve begun to reference our own work (of the last four years) as we’ve built a new vocabulary – in essence we are collaborating with ourselves.

We just did a ton of market research and we found that, the guy skews a little bit younger than we thought, 25-45 range with the sweet spot in his mid-30’s. And he’s family oriented, weather he has a partner or wife may have kid he’s kinda of at the beginning to middle of his career so value is super important to him and performance and properties and quality is really important to him. He gets up and starts his day and wants to look put together but not overly fashion in a way. He’s going to work he’s riding his bike he’s having drinks with his friend; he’s a normal guy who is very active juggling a full plate. He’s real and likes his style and appreciates the prints and what we do.

What do Generation Z guys have to look forward to from Perry Ellis?

We are doing this retro stuff right now, which I think is what they are into. It’s interesting to me that branding and logos are coming back, because I feel like in the past it meant status and I feel like now, it means heritage, validity, quality, theres a story behind it. I feel like that is the big difference, and if we can get them involved in our story and realize there is heritage to it there is something real behind it than I think we will win.

What do men want in their closet in 2018?

I think they want good value, I think they want performance, I do think they want easy care, they want the right amount of fashion for them. I think they need clothes that can really take them through their day. It’s not about ’I’m wearing this really stiff thing to work and then I have to change, and be cool for drinks with my friends, and then I need a uniform for the weekend. That’s why we came up with this uniform concept because its clothes that can take you anywhere. He needs pieces that are going to separate him out a little bit, it could be the logo pieces or the slightly over the top pieces that give him a little personality.

Something you have to have on you right now?

I’m kind of obsessed with sneakers right now. A backpack is always with me right now. A fannypack has actually been something I have been playing with lately. I went to Europe recently and it was super helpful. If it had to be one thing, most days I’m wearing a sneaker. I was in Europe for two weeks and I was in the same pair of Balenciaga sneakers. I didn’t feel under prepared you can kinda dress it up, I feel like it’s really the one piece. I even worked out in them a few times.

I must admit…traveling to Thailand was always on my bucket list, even though Thailand is over five thousand miles away from my home in Germany. I always envied the amazing beaches, street food and beach activities that I read about on the internet. I made a promise to myself to travel there in my early twenties. For my 23rd birthday, I decided to tick it off my bucket list and give myself the perfect gift: a trip to beautiful Phuket.

I chose the large island of Phuket because of the diversity it has to offer. There is plenty to do and see with the different towns, beaches, and activities. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to stay at some incredible hotels; taste the local cuisine at fantastic restaurants and enjoy so many outdoor activities. The weather was incredible, and the people and the culture ensured my vacation was memorable.

Day 1

When we arrived at Vijitt Hotel, the friendly staff knew our time of arrival and had a welcome drink ready. With jet lag, it was a nice to have a cold drink and take in the new surroundings. The Vijitt Hotel is a massive resort on a mountain that you need a golf cart to get from one end to the other easily.

Surrounded by a tropical paradise and overlooking the ocean, this place is a slice of heaven on the mountain. This beautiful beachfront hotel has an array of private villas on the hill with an ocean view. The hotel has a uniquely local feel, and the architecture is very native to the landscape with traditional tree leaf roofs, Thai art is carved into the wood of the doors, and everything is made out of local wood and coconut shells. It was very natural.

I was thrilled when I got my private villa and immediately began to tackle everything Phuket had to offer. This meant jumping into the ocean for a swim, followed by relaxing by the pool and enjoying the food and drinks in the sun.

Day 2

My second day consisted of truly relaxing.

The pool at the hotel was spectacular with the ocean view and surrounded by palm trees; it made for a very relaxing day. The perfect cure for jet lag was to sip on local tropical cocktails and float in the pool. After a long day of chilling and tanning, I set out to watch the tranquil sunset from my villa. It was the perfect ending to a wonderful day as it was one of the most amazing sunsets I’ve seen. It was special because you could distinctively see the clouds, as the sky was lite up with pink and orange as we watched the moon rise.

Day 3

After spoiling myself with cocktails, sun and swimming, I decided I needed to head out to the Ton Ao Yon waterfall hike. After hiking amongst the Thai forest and tropical plants for one and a half hours, we arrive at the waterfall.

I've always wanted to swim in a waterfall, and after the long hike, it was refreshing to jump into the fresh, clean water. I felt part of nature, and it was very relaxing and grounding to spend some time appreciating the beauty of this location. The fresh water also felt rejuvenating after the hike. I love hiking and back home in Harz, Germany, we have some of the most wonderful hiking trails, but I must say the Ton Ao Yon waterfall is a must see in Phuket.

Day 4

Even though the hike the day before was exhausting, I always do a full body workout every day when I’m on vacation. I felt I needed to keep up with my workout regime and hit the hotel gym for my “travel” workout. The beauty of working out in Phuket is the humidity makes you sweat so much that you feel like you are really putting in an aggressive workout and burning off all the calories from the incredible food and cocktails.

To treat myself later that day, I ventured out into town to explore the famous night markets to experience the local culture and cuisine. The night markets are bustling with people from all walks of life exploring and experiencing the food, clothes, and souvenirs.

The food is served in a paper box so you can walk around and enjoy the market. I recommend the fried scorpio. Delicious.

Day 5

It was time to move on to the other side of the island where I checked into The Surin Hotel. The Surin is one the most beautiful hotels I have ever stayed in as the villas are so large and only steps away from the white sand beaches. Close your eyes and imagine pristine white beaches, mesmerizing light blue water surrounded by palm trees. It is a place where a tropical forest meets the beach.

The resort was completly private and offered so many beach activities like stand up paddle boarding, kayaking, beach tennis and volleyball, yoga on the beach, catamaran sailing, windsurfing, and snorkeling. Before I planned my next few days though, I plunked myself into one of the most amazing beach hammocks and drifted off for hours.

Day 6

Phuket is home to some of the most beautiful beaches and water so by my sixth day it was time to stand up paddle board and kayak in the pristine waters. I will be honest, I am a much more at home on the paddleboard than the kayak, but both were a blast. When kayaking we discovered a cave, we tried to fit through the gap, but it was too tight. From the kayak, we could see crabs crawling on

the sand. After some time I took a little break and lay on the kayak in the sun, was very relaxing.

Day 7

One of my favorite activities while traveling is eating the local cuisine. I mentioned how exploring the night markets was an adventure, but now on day seven it was time to make a reservation at Lomtalay Restaurant. Located on site, it is a beach hotel where you watch the sunset as you enjoy dinner on the beach with your feet in the sand. The food was phenomenal, and I especially want to give a shout out to the yummy Ped Phad King.

Day 8

For my final days, I went South to the Pullman Panwa Hotel. At this point, I had traveled to both sides of the island, and now I was excited to head south to this luxury hotel as I had heard of the amazing food, accommodation, and of course the huge infinity pool. The private villa and pool are right on the water, and yellow flowers and palm trees surrounded the villa. The rooms were beautiful because they are decorated with lightcolors – white, blue, and beige.

There was a DJ at the infinity pool, beach bar and of course water sports. They offer a shuttle service to the night markets as well. I took advantage of my final night to reflect on my travels and all the unique places I had visited.

Day 10

The final day is always the worst day as it was time to head home and bid farewell to my wonderful, 23rd birthday gift to myself. I enjoyed every hotel, restaurant and all the spectacular beaches I visited. I was reminded why I chose Phuket because on one island I could experience so many special places. As I prepared to return to Germany, I knew one day I would come back to Thailand with the plan to discover one of the other alluring islands Thailand has to offer. Phuket is the perfect vacation for young professionals, families, and anyone that wants luxury yet a relaxed vacation.

On Tulum

Recently, I had the opportunity to travel to Tulum, Mexico with Onia. Known for its beautiful white sand beaches, delicious yet healthy restaurants, and eco-boutique hotels, Tulum exudes all kinds of chicness. This small town in the state of Quintana Roo on the Yucatan Peninsula is the ultimate destination for luxury travelers and health enthusiasts alike.

The best part is doing what I love and all the amazing relationships I’ve created along the way as well as being able to do what I love which is creating cool content and bringing awareness to brands!

The most challenging part is learning to know when NOT to work, it’s been hard to balance working for yourself is not easy, and I feel like I’m constantly turned on, even vacation is work now, so learning when and how to unplug has been the biggest challenge!

How would you describe your style evolution?

Well, I will say I’ve come a long way! I think before I was dressing more main stream, but I’ve kind of gone to a more gothic 70’s place which I’ve been loving, and wearing so many more accessories, belts, chains, necklaces, bracelets etc! I love pairing a classic look (suiting etc) with sneakers and making any style trend my own!

From the time we arrived at Casa Pueblo, everything was absolute perfection. Everyone working at this super minimal, chic hotel greeted us with a smile, as were shown their incredible new restaurant and salt water pool. Tulum and its idyllic beaches offer an escape from the typical craziness and tourist masses in other areas of Mexico like Cancun. Tulum remains extremely wellnesscentered with yoga and fresh juice offered at every corner, while still staying true to its bohemian vibe. We really enjoyed exploring Tulum on bikes. There is so much to see and do in addition to the ample relaxation to be had on the beach.

For foodies, opportunities abound. Tulum has so many delicious restaurants that specialize in ingredient-driven, wood-fired cooking heavily influenced by its turquoise waters and tropical surroundings. Some of my favorites included Hartwood, Nômade Tulum , Posada Margarita, and Arca. Expect fresh ingredients in a relaxed, bohemian beach setting throughout.

You have $300 bucks in your pocket and you are going to a daytime rooftop party in July, where do you go to get a full outfit?

Hmm, EASY! I would go to either Beacons Closet or one of my favorite vintage spots. You can always find some dope printed button downs and great trousers at those places, I love mixing and matching current with retro.

What are your plans for Summer?

Hmm I never know when I might be traveling, but I will be in the Hamptons, A LOT and I have plans for a euro trip near my birthday in July, which I’m super excited about, stay tuned!

Words to live by?

I have SO many, which you can check out in my INSPO highlights on my gram. But you become what you believe is my biggest, I truly believe that if you truly believe in yourself and your mission, that anything is attainable and will come true, it’s all about manifesting it into the universe, It’s worked for me so far so I tr and spread that with others.

Shopping in Tulum is also super fun. There are countless high-end shops that feature handmade Mayan clothes and artwork. Tulum is also a natural playground with one of the largest underground water systems. The cenotes are truly incredible, and there are plenty of opportunities for snorkeling and fresh/open water diving.

This weekend trip was definitely not enough with all there is to see and do in Tulum! I cannot wait to be back soon!

In my eyes, Coachella has always been the music festival to attend. I first heard about it 5 years ago when I still lived at home in Maine. I remember picking up a fashion magazine that covered the entire weekend long, style-conscious, party in the desert for the who's-who of the industry and music lovers alike - all while surrounded by cactuses and palm trees. Pool parties to attend during the day, then live concerts from your favorite artists at night, yeah, I was sold. But, like so many things that you desperately want to do/try/experience because you know you would love it, it often get's lost in life's priorities and you never get around to actually doing it. How fitting that, years later, my 17-year-old wish was coming true and I now get the chance to create my own magazine article documenting my Coachella experience. That dream finally coming to fruition not only because I wanted it to, but I had to, it

was on the list. Oh, what list, you ask? At the top of the year as the ball dropped and we said goodbye to 2017, my latest adventure was simultaneously beginning. In honor of my late grandmother who passed away this fall, I created a list of 87 items, one for every year of her life, that contained a variety of different and new experiences I needed to live my best year in 2018. I called it: Project 87 and it was based on the two lessons she taught me. Firstly, what she was amazing at, which was being a devoted grandmother and always showing love and kindness to anyone who crossed her path. Secondly, what she wasn’t great at, having the courage to live a little dangerously and finally experiencing parts of life you’ve been dying to do, but just never created the opportunity for no real reason at all. Insert item #38: Go to Coachella.

After months of crossing off items I was three weeks out from Coachella Weekend 1, and no plans had been made. Thankfully in the five years that have elapsed since my 17-year-old self dreamed up this idea, I have reached a point in my life where I have enough resources to finally make it happen.

With the help of my management team to coordinate and my friends who were also attending the festival, with houses near the festival grounds, I was able to experience Coachella in style. In one of those rare but fitting circumstances, things seemed to hold off until they were completely ready to be given life.

Suddenly 2.5 half weeks flew by, it was days before the festivities were to begin, and I was in Venice Beach, Los Angeles walking in the sand with my manager.

Earlier that day he found what seemed to be the last remaining VIP ticket in the world, and everything seemed to be in place. I was headed to the desert the next day to start a weekend-long adventure that I felt like I had heard and read every detail about, but was still having a hard time imagining.

My buddy, and weekend sidekick, Brock DeHaven picked me up the next day in Beverly Hills after a fitting with ASOS, who styled me throughout most of the weekend. From there we were headed south cruising by the mountains and wind mills, blasting our own curated Coachella-hype playlist. What’s supposed to be a 2 hour drive turned into 4.5 because all of LA was headed the same way, by mid evening we hit our first stop: Palm Springs for the YSL Coachella Kickoff Party. From that moment on, the weekend is best described as a heart-pounding, over-smiling, voice-losing whirlwind. My friend Anna, who I know from NYC, let us stay at her family's guest house. The house is the most incredible property in La Quinta located on the PGA West Golf course and only a few miles from the festival grounds. Our days were pretty routined, but a routine I don’t think anyone would complain about.

Three jam packed, adrenaline pumping days and sleepless nights, with too many drinks, not enough food, and more moments than I can recite that I was totally and completely consumed by.

Coachella is one of those rare things in this world that actually holds up to its hype. The pool parties: check. The who’s-who: hey Bieber, check. The best part of all though was the music and losing yourself in the bliss of perfect weather, amazing friends, and your favorite performer singing their heart out and regularly concluding with, “Thank you, Coachella! This is the best day of my life!”

Potentially mine too, what a special thing to be a part of. I would like to claim that it was bound to happen at some point in my life, whether it was 2018 or 2028, but the truth is that you always need an extra push. Project 87 finally gave me the nudge I needed and it was an unforgettable weekend in the desert. I left exhausted, but I also left with old relationships strengthened and new friendships formed. I got to be a part of a community of 150,000 music lovers who all desired the same extraordinary experience. And ultimately I left proud that I did something I’ve been dreaming about doing since I was a teenager. #38 was more than worth it, which I think is something I knew all along, and I’ll definitely be back for a reunion in the desert in a year's time from now. Thank you to everyone who had a hand in making this weekend come true.

Coachella, you are special, but I’m off to chase down some more items on my list.

Some people may not know how you got started as one of the original influencers online, can you tell us how you got started?

I’ve been blogging for over 8 years now, I know that's a long time when you think about it. I started my blog as a mere hobby, more of an escape from reality with the encouragement of my sister, Liat, while I was studying accounting in Baruch College. During the first year I realized I don’t want to count numbers for the rest of my life and I wanted to pursue fashion. So I transferred over to FIT and really focused on the blog. I genuinely had zero intention of making blogging my full time job, mainly because I had no idea that it could be a business. There weren’t that many male bloggers at the time, maybe a handful and at the time a lot of men were looking for guys to follow for fashion inspiration. At the same time my daily outfits were getting reposted on really large accounts on Instagram and outlets like Business Insider, Esquire, Huffington Post and a bunch of others were including me in their “Guys You Should Follow” roundups. I am fortunate for getting on board on the early side – and I think that helped me a lot!

What was the best thing about getting started?

Doing something that I can call my own, building it from scratch and seeing how it unfolds. Being your own boss is the most rewarding feeling – even if you're not as large as GQ Magazine or Vogue – if you have 2% of their following – at least you can call that your own and no one can take that away from you.

I got made fun of a whole lot when I started my blog, but you need to be ready to be criticized for anything you put out. There will be people that love it, some people that will hate it and others that won’t care about it.

Every influencer has a look, a vibe, a certain style, but fashion is changing and since you got started I’m sure your aesthetic has evolved. In what ways has your style changed over the years, and in what ways has it stayed the same?

This is a really good question. I own 50+ bespoke suits, and today I only wear 3 of them. Don’t get me wrong anytime I have the opportunity to wear a suit I get super excited to, but I’m more likely to mix fun bold prints and patterns than wear a three piece suit.

STAY: At The Serenity Villa – if you have a large enough group I would recommend staying in this luxury and out of this world Villa.

You have an outdoor shower that looks like straight out of a film – I’ll say that much. If not I would recommend The W Hotel which is located on the beach!

EAT: A few of my favorite restaurants are MOONLITE, which gives you a chance to dine on the beach, Da Maria, which is a super instagramable Italian restaurant and Merah Putih if you want to experience some Indonesian Cuisine.

Top 4 experiences/places since starting The Metro Man?

1. Driving a Ferrari California T in Big Sur. 2. Visiting the Renaissance Island in Aruba also known as the home to the pink feathered flamingos.

3. Israel – My parents are from there and I was recently there for Tel-Aviv Fashion week and absolutely adored it.

DO: For nightlife I would recommend checking out OMNIA dayclub which just opened in April. The venue is on a cliff overlooking the beach--great for sunset shots, and their infinity pool is beyond.

Another fun place to grab a drink and hang out by is Potato head located in Seminyak.

Can you tell us what sports you grew up playing, and why fitness has become your main focus now?

I guess you could say I was born to be an athlete. Growing up I played just about every sport you can think of. In the Midwest, Michigan specifically, youth sports just seemed like something you were expected to be involved in. I grew up playing football, baseball, soccer, basketball, swimming & diving, track & field, and golf just to name a few. My dad played football at The University of Michigan, spent a few years in the pros with the Jets, and my mom swam so, fitness has always been in my life in some way or

another. It's no surprise that I've made a career in fitness here in New York. As a young adult, I still have that competitive fire in me everyday, and everything I experienced growing up as an athlete in an athletic family has brought me to the place I am today. Everyday, I aim to inspire people, help someone reach their goals, and be the reason someone tried just a little harder because I lead by example. Whether you’re an athlete or not, we compete everyday at every level life, and we have to have that competitive fire in us in everything we do.

I think the trick is to “make it look easy” haha. To be in the shape I'm at now, it takes a lot of hours of hard work and consistency. I always tell people that one great workout won’t change the way you look, but it can change your mind set. You need to set your intention for the stars but give yourself manageable and reachable goals along the way or on a daily basis to keep you moving in the right direction. I like working out obviously but I think something that helps me is changing up my routine constantly. I’m never bored or sick of what I’m doing. So many people dread their workout and I don’t understand why. Working out can be fun and challenging at the same time. If you feel your self at a plateau, try changing it up, try something new and make your fitness fun again.

I lead an active lifestyle, with coaching, training, and fitness modeling. I probably take three or four different style fitness classes from boxing, to hiit training, to circuit training to my own weight training on a weekly basis. I don’t get nearly as much sleep as I’d like at night because I’m such a night owl, but I do enjoy a mid day nap here and there. For anyone reading this, get the rest you need which can vary person to person. Some things that trip me up along the way are definitely sweets, and alcohol. I love candy and ice cream, because who doesn't, and I like to go out and have a good time with friends. If you work hard, I don’t mind indulging a bit I the things we enjoy and work so hard for. If I could give

1) Prep your food and cut out processed food for a week and see how you feel. Know what you’re eating, and be in control of what your eating. Prep your food the night before if you need to so you don’t find yourself at McDonalds because it was “convenient.”

2) Don’t stress about the things you cant control. We know that stress effects our mood, physical and mental well being, and other things on microscopic level that can lead to weight gain or disease. Practice mindfulness and choose a positive outlook whenever you can.

3) Drink more water. There are so many heath benefits related to water that you can research on your own. Cut out juice and alcohol for a week along with it. After 7 days, notice how your body has responded.

4) Don’t skip your workout. Schedule it like you would a business meeting. Often times when we get backed up, the first thing we sacrifice is “our” time. Take that time for yourself and I promise you wont regret it.

5) Healthy alternatives. Typically when you're craving something, there is a healthy alternative you can look up instead. Next time

you say to yourself, I really want some chocolate or whatever it is, dive in a little deeper. You may be able to curb that craving with a healthy substitution.

1) Find a gym or trainer that you like. Circling back to people who dread their workout. Make sure you're excited about the journey you’re about to start.

At the end of the day, I can’t control what anyone else is doing.

Only myself. Focus on your journey... not everyone is on the same timeline.

3) Set your intention. Don’t go into your fitness journey with blind ambition. Set a reachable goal and when you get there, set a new goal. You can do it on our your own, recruit a friend to help you and hold you accountable, or involve a fitness professional to keep you on track.

Males typically want great abs and chest and arms popping during the summer time. Females typically abs, butt, and legs. But, again, everyone is different. Tailor your workouts to your specific goals and stay consistent. These days I train full body HIIT training 3-4 times a week, and lift weights 3 times a week. Circling back to #1 of my 7 day challenge. Don’t forget to compliment your workouts with a basic yet effective eating plan as well. Clean eating is just as important as crushing it under the barbell.

4) Piggy backing off of #3. Grab a friend and go. It’s easier to cancel on yourself. Harder to cancel on your friend. Hold each other accountable to reach your goals faster.

5) Stay positive. You’re at the start of a new journey and have a lot of work to do. It's the small victories along the way that will keep you going to reach your overall goal. Realize It’s going to take time but will be worth it in the end. There will be good and bad days but each day is one step closer to getting to where you want to be.

The key to every look comes down to comfort. It’s not just about the fabrics and materials, but how your outfit makes you feel. It’s impossible to perform at your best if you're self-conscious about your appearance, or distracted by discomfort. This is the founding principal behind the technical construction of my shoe line that looks like a dress shoe and feels like a sneaker. To kick-start my mindset for the day, I start my mornings with a workout. The single most difficult thing for me is getting out of bed, so I force myself to do it before sunrise and get in a sweat. When I start the day overcoming my biggest challenge, it makes everything else that comes my way seem easy.

Taking my morning challenge a step further, I workout with the trainers at DogPound who help me consistently push past my limits.
