When time, energy and nature come together, all manner of journeys can unfold… More importantly, unique stories and tales can be told. Welcome to Tales of Alchemy.
Tales of Alchemy is an artisanal perfumery that produces scents unlike any other.
Not just inspired by nature, this hand-made perfume is the bottled bounty of nature in its purest form.
Tales of Alchemy’s first slow perfume was recently released by way of a small inaugural batch. The first fragrance is entitled, ‘Caravan’ - its deep, rich scent aptly conveys curiousness and discovery, beauty and seduction; blending androgynous notes and raw elements to make a gender-free, pure Extrait de Parfum. Indeed, anyone can wear it, but that is not to say that this perfume is ‘for everyone’ because this is not the same as buying, or wearing a mainstream scent.
Caravan, like all Tales of Alchemy perfumes to come, is deliberately designed to be different. Every batch is mindfully and skilfully made to enhance how you feel; harnessing the deep, aromatic benefits from wholly natural and raw materials.
Unlike the restrictions faced by the big perfume houses, who need additives and
synthetic versions of scents in order to massproduce… Tales of Alchemy sources and uses only the finest, premium natural ingredients - elixirs and tinctures and essential oils that make for magical potential through alchemy, energy and of course, time. Hence the small batch releases and genuine individuality attributed to each and every bottle.
Established by independent alchemist and perfumer, Daisy Fernandes, Tales of Alchemy marks the start of the next chapter in an exciting olfactive journey. Creating scents that are completely natural, hand-made with intention and using ethically and consciously sourced ingredients. Tales of Alchemy stems from Daisy’s very own magical process of transformation, creation and combination of everything natural.
The process is slow, the perfume takes its time - like nature itself. With the world working at a pace that usually means a heavy reliance on automation, technology, artificial ingredients and a plundering of resources; what a joy to be able to bottle something so real and natural; so wonderfully pure and unique.
Having created the popular brand, KOTA Candles some ten years ago, Daisy has always practiced the fine art of fragrance creation. Opening up a new and invigorating sensorial world, Tales of Alchemy intends to share olfactory life landscapes and evolving stories through perfume.
Always celebrating rarity.
Always honouring nature.
If you are seeking a new and distinctive scent; something that sings of delicate high notes boldly striding atop earthy, warm and nostalgic accords - treat yourself to a bottle of Caravanbreathe deep and be bold.
In order to find out more from Tales of Alchemy, follow @talesofalchemythere’s news about a delicate new scent on the horizon. You can go to the website www.talesofalchemy.com to buy online, or pick up a bottle of Caravan from Manna at West Centre, or from The Journey holistic beauty studio, which is up at David Hick.
Tales of Alchemy also offers individualised bespoke perfume. This process is something truly special and tailor-made scents can include precious and rare ingredients that you will not be able to find in any offthe-shelf perfume. The story of your very own perfume could come true… Create your own unique Tale of Alchemy.

Apologies for the lack of communication, but I have been busy. Last year I gave Amélie, my gift and homeware store, a glow-up. My vibration was high, I had good energy, and I hopped, skipped, and danced through the whole project. I'm kidding. Yes, the job had its ups and downs - but on the whole, it did go smoothly and was a positive experience which was due, in no small part, to having binned the booze, but - and hear me out on this - to a lesser extent just may have also been down to the fact that I have joined the thousands of people who are jumping onto the crystals trend.
They have been around since the planet began and have played a part in protection and health since the beginning of humankind, and may rebalance your body's energy planes to provide focus, positivity and clarity. So what is it about this massive trend? Why are crystals having a moment?
"Popped into a cute little shop selling crystals. I never thought about this before, but they seem quite popular at the moment, so I bought myself a green Aventurine pendant point. It's said to be one of the luckiest crystals of all. Aventurine brings prosperity and leadership. It also helps you to find your true voice and to be heard. I just went for it because it's my favourite colour.
Back at home, I'm checking out what crystals are good for, and I realise a quicker search would be what aren't they good for? Discovering that they really help with positivity and helping to clear the body of negative energy. This is fun! Oh god, here I go again - my latest obsession."
"Still reeling from just how well the new shop has done. Rebranded, shop-fitted and trading on 21st October, having only signed the lease on 30th August. Could it be the Power of the Crystal? No sister, it's the Power of Me! I wouldn't have had the energy or selfconfidence a couple of years ago to undertake something like this, but because I chose to make a big change, it changed my outlook, and so thank you to the world of crystal-wearing, sage-smudging and chakra unblocking, that I never knew existed!"
More and more, words like "manifesting, chakra, healing, and vibe" have started to creep into our vocabulary. Like many others, I'm all up for this because it is cool, harmless and fun. A quick search will tell you that there is a crystal out there for every possible problem, whether it be matters of the mind, body or soul; what's more, they don't give you a hangover! Wearing a crystal, but even more so giving a loved one a crystal, shows you care and want to help ease a hurt or trouble, and that's got to be a lovely thing.
Crystals haven't turned me into someone I am not, they won't cure my recurring health anxiety or take away the melancholy that swoops down from time to time, nor will they stop me from sometimes being a grot bag to live with (sorry, you-know-who). There is no scientific evidence that they work, but who cares? They aren't a silver bullet or a cureall for the myriad of issues that each and every one of us has to navigate our way through, but they are certainly a welcome and rather beautiful distraction and one that I will continue to grab with both hands.
At the end of February, Voisins launched their Spa Rooms, offering treatments by renowned beauty brands Charlotte Tilbury and Dermalogica.
What inspired Voisins to open a spa?
Our goal is to elevate the retail experience on the island. We know our customers love our customer service-led approach and have always offered oncounter beauty treatments and some longer beauty treatments in a spa room we had on the ground floor, but we wanted to make it more of a luxury experience. We started the conversation with some of our brands when we refurbished the beauty department in 2021. Our beauty counter managers and therapists know that the best way for customers to discover new brands and products is by trying them. We've also seen a trend (post-covid) in people prioritising selfcare and wellness, and we always want to be a part of the latest trends.
What makes the spa different from others?
We are the world's first permanent Charlotte Tilbury residency – which is pretty exciting! We want to offer that all-encompassing shopping experience, where customers can come to Voisins to shop, eat and relax with a spa treatment!
What treatments will be offered?
Charlotte Tilbury offers five treatments, 3x15minute free facials, then a 30-minute Immediate Skin Revival and a 60-minute 'Charlotte's Signature Facial'. All Charlotte Tilbury treatments are fully redeemable on products purchased after the appointment.
Dermalogica has a wide range of 7 treatments, each with a 30-minute and 60-minute option. Their professional skin services are completely tailored to your skin's needs.
Standout treatments?
We've just launched, and the therapists have been so busy even #TeamVoisins haven't had a chance to try them all. Still, Charlotte's Signature Facial and the Dermalogica Nanoneedling have been the most popular treatments so far.
You can find Voisins Spa Rooms on the first floor opposite Voisins Kitchen. All the details of the treatments, durations, prices and how to book on our website www.voisins.com/spa
Are you struggling with your long-term weight goals, and stuck in a Fad Diet rut? Words by Chloe Bowler
What is a Fad Diet? Unfortunately, the phrase ''Fad Diet'' has become an absolute norm regarding diet, weight, health and wellbeing. A Fad Diet is a popular, short-term approach to weight loss. It will typically promise fast results quickly, an extremely tempting offer for anyone struggling to feel motivated, lose weight and reach their goals, particularly if they have an event or holiday looming soon.
However, if something looks too good to be true, it probably is. What a fad diet really is, is a shortterm ''fix'' enabling weight loss by drastically cutting calories by one way or another. There are many fad diets on the market, from only drinking juices to just
eating eggs, drinking celery juice daily, or only eating soup. One of the most popular fad diets is to cut out food groups, normally carbohydrates, from your diet. This drastically reduces the number of calories but also excludes a significant food group from your diet. Carbohydrates are the primary energy source for the body and contain important nutrients like fibre, which can help protect against some cancers, diabetes and potentially aid weight loss.
Herein lies the problem with fad diets. They come with a compromise. Yes, you may lose weight quickly by cutting out bread, pasta, rice and pizza, but you are also cutting out an important food group, which can upset the workings of the body and give false hope of long-term success.
You may be delighted with a short-term result of weight loss; however, a lot of the weight loss will be water weight loss, so after a couple of months, you may find that losing weight with this method becomes harder and harder to sustain.
The second problem with this diet is that while cutting out a whole food group like carbohydrates, you will most likely increase protein and fat intake. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but many popular low-carbohydrate diets can encourage far too great an intake of saturated fats that can negatively affect your overall health.
Thirdly, is this a sustainable diet for you? I know I don't want to go without bread, pizza or pasta again if I don't have to. To truly find a diet that works for you, you need to find a way of living healthily that you can continue for more than a month at a time.
The best evidence of Fat Diets not working is the bookshelf in your local bookshop or online. The ''healthy living'' section is always packed with diet books, promising to do what the book before them couldn't. The problem is that if any of these Fad Diet books worked, there wouldn't be room in the market for the next one.
We all need to find a sustainable way of living a healthy life in the long term. It may sound boring, but moderation is the key to a healthy diet you can enjoy throughout life. Don't cut out food groups; enjoy your food, choose healthy options and moderate the not-so-healthy options. People are always amazed to watch me in a restaurant as I tuck into bread, French fries and ice cream. I eat most of the time healthily, so I am fine choosing unhealthier options sometimes. In the grand scheme of things, I enjoy some unhealthy foods, and I don't feel that it is a problem for my overall health as the unhealthy choices in my diet are in the minority, and the healthy choices are in the majority.
My advice for how to put this into practice is to try to eat balanced meals. Rather than trying to cut out any food groups or what you may perceive as a ''treat'', try to add healthy foods into each meal.
A great start is to add more vegetables to each meal. This way, you will naturally include more vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, and portionwise, you might find that your plate has a greater proportion of vegetables than it does the rest of the meal. Whereas before, you might have eaten a huge plate of chilli con carne with lots of rice and cheese, if you now start by loading your plate with lots of vegetables like courgettes and peppers, you might naturally put a smaller portion of chilli, rice and cheese on top, as your plate already looks full. This way, you still feel satisfied but have a better proportion of healthy foods in your meal.
There is no quick fix to weight loss, as there is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to diet. You must find what works for you and something that doesn't feel like a punishment. Eat good, healthy foods that you enjoy the taste of, and keep your favourite treats in your diet as well. If you want to lose weight, keep these treats to a minimum. Don't choose every treat; choose a treat; there is a big difference. Focus on the positive by adding goodness into your diet; you will find it a much easier path to healthy eating.
"If any of these Fad Diet books worked, there wouldn't be room in the market for the next one."
Ginger has many health benefits and can easily be added to your diet, says Christian
GottGinger has long been recognised as an aid to digestion and can help reduce bloating and nausea. There is increasing evidence that ginger's antioxidants can help fight inflammation and help relieve muscle and joint pain.
Drinking ginger as a shot is an increasingly popular way of using ginger to benefit from its properties, but if you find a shot a little strong, why not try my syrup recipe as a long refreshing drink with lots of soda, ice, fresh mint, and freshly squeezed lime juice.
Top tip: don't try to peel the ginger with a knife; scrape gently with the edge of a spoon, and if the ginger is fresh, the skin will come off easily.

Fiona Weston is a well-known skin health expert. She shares her top tips for getting and maintaining the skin you deserve.
Effectively removing makeup is a gateway to clearer, healthier skin. When makeup is removed, your skin becomes a clear canvas ready to accept products. Double cleanse. Please, for the love of God, DON'T use Micellar Water to take your makeup off and think that it will do the job. It won't.
If you wear foundation, tinted moisturiser or SPF, please use a PreCleanse Oil, followed by an appropriate milk cleansing lotion or Cleansing Gel (low foam). I recommend Environ PreCleanse Oil £26 and either Environ Youth Essentia £43 or Hydra-intense Lotion £46. If breakouts are a concern, I suggest the Sebu-Wash Gel Cleanser £34.
The 45-degree angle at that you hang your head to look at your cell phone causes a repeated squishing of the neck, also called 'tech neck,' resulting in premature folds and wrinkles. To treat this, most people know to apply moisturiser to the neck, and many do this, but the mistake is made in treating the neck as an afterthought. This particularly applies with sunscreen since the number one cause of premature skin ageing is UV rays from the sun. The best way to apply sunscreen to this area is by doing a full second application exclusively to the neck. In addition to sunscreen, be sure to use your serums and moisturisers in an upward motion to go against gravity.
No matter your skin type, a serum will help. There are many formulas to hydrate, anti-age, brighten, exfoliate, everything. Incorporating a hyaluronic
acid-based serum in the morning and at night will provide the ultimate boost in hydration for all skin types - this is a must in every skincare regimen, leaving skin looking and feeling replenished, plump, healthy, and super glowy. I recommend EnvironFocus Hydrating Serum 30ml £77
The bottom line when it comes to keeping the skin around your eyes looking and feeling its best is to not forget about it. This goes beyond applying speciallyformulated eye creams - the eye area should be protected with SPF and sunglasses whenever possible and moisturised daily, like the rest of your skin. Most people are good about applying face moisturiser but often neglect the eyes, neck, decolletage and hands. I recommend EnvironVita Peptide Eye Gel 10ml £65
SPF
We all know by now that applying SPF daily is a must…please think of SPF as a necessary part of your daily routine. I recommend any of the Heliocare range. Nothing protects the skin like Heliocare 360° - a professional SPF range that protects your skin every day from damage caused by the sun. Heliocare 360° will leave your skin looking and feeling beautifully soft and hydrated. There's one to suit every skin type, so you can easily find a product you'll love to use every morning. The tinted SPF 50 is one of the most popular products £32.99.

Whether you're looking for soft furnishings or larger items, local retailers have plenty to offer.
The Gooseberry Bush is a clothing and lifestyle store selling unusual and eclectic clothing from unique European brands and a gorgeous collection of homewares, including small interiors and soft furnishings to decorate any home.
Sam Gaudin worked with her mother running The Gooseberry Bush at First Tower, taking over the reins 10 years ago when she retired. The shop then moved to Rondels Farm and expanded.
Sam says her customers inspire her; listening and watching what they do with the lovely pieces in their homes inspires her to create a look that is both Nordic and contemporary.
Interior soft furnishing colours this spring include a shot of lime to liven up grey decor, plus dusky rose & leaf greens to bring the outside in! Furniture includes good value, multi-use pieces for display and storage, often used to create separate areas within apartments/ homes. Washable recycled cotton rugs will cosy up areas, and new waterproof outdoor rugs will liven up any balcony, patio or decking area for the summer.

Kolle was launched by Maryke Harper, whose love of fabrics dates back to fond childhood memories.
"I grew up in South Africa, and since I can remember, I've been fascinated with beautiful spaces, colour and texture, with a particular love for fabric and textiles. My mother had a fabric shop, and I remember spending endless hours in her workroom, playing with offcuts of her beautiful quilts."
Having moved to Jersey 5 years ago for her husband's job, the original plan was for Maryke to take a break and look after their two girls.
"I soon realised that creativity needed to be part of my everyday life, and I soon began designing again, and I became obsessed with the art of silkscreen printing, building, curing and burning my own screens in my darkened laundry room. I started printing pieces of fabric and turned them into little wet bags, bowl covers, tea towels and other products I sold at markets and fairs. The fabrics I printed soon became more significant interior projects like cushions, blinds and upholstery... And then Kolle was born.
Maryke says the island inspires her - the soft, muted colours and patterns emerging from the seascapes and greenery.
"My designs constantly change and evolve, and I work with small batches of colour, making many of my products limited editions. During covid, I signed up for a 2-year online interior design course in Australia, which was amazing and helped me gain confidence in my creativity and interior style. I have since started assisting clients with interior projects that reflect their unique style while using the principles of good design to create feel-good spaces to be proud of."
In April last year, Maryke opened a little shop in the old barn up at David Hick Interiors, where she says the local support was incredible. Having recently branched out to the UK, Maryke's business partner, Nelia, represents the brand from Sevenoaks in Kent. Their cushion and bedding ranges are now stocked in several boutique interior shops across the UK.
At the end of April this year, Kolle will move into bigger premises in Miladi Parade, Longueville.
"The new shop will bring exciting new furniture and homeware suppliers to the island - all carefully chosen to reflect my passion for the environment. I try to keep the packaging as green as possible and to the absolute minimum. You can purchase bespoke, handprinted cushions and 100% linen fabric by the meter. There will also be space for me to host small group lifestyle events and workshops."
Maryke will be working with clients on interior projects, so if you need help, pop into the shop or contact Maryke on social media @kolle_interiors
Scent is powerful, & evokes memories, so why not fill your home with your favourite fragrances that may remind you of another time or place or that create memories for those you welcome into your home?
From walking in the house to doing the laundry, relaxing in the bath, or chilling with friends, Willow, founded by Vanessa Vowden, has a fragrance for every room and season.
"It's important to fill your home with wonderful scents and fragrances that make you happy and will hopefully remind your family and friends of the great times they've had in your home when they come across that scent somewhere else in their lives.
I like to have different fragrances for different rooms in the house, maybe not every room, but for example, I will have a different scent in the kitchen than what I would have in the lounge or bedroom. I even have one for the utility/ laundry room… well, there's nothing quite like lighting a candle that says I've done lots of washing and ironing when really you have put your feet up and read a magazine! Yep, you guessed it, Soft Linen.
Selling candles and diffusers online can be tricky, as being able to smell the scent first is a bonus. That's why doing pop-ups along the way is great, as you can come along and get a sense of all the fragrances. Another way to discover your scent is to join our CANDLE CLUB. What's this, you ask? You sign up online (you only have to do this once) and get a discounted, full-size candle every month. We keep it appropriate to the season or occasion that may be happening that month, for example, Christmas, Valentine's etc. This means every month you get a different candle. Oh, and once you have been a "Clubber" for six months, your
discount increases, so you pay even less! What's not to love about that?!
We also like to have exclusive scents outside our current collection. You will never have the same scent within 12 months. We also have many new arrivals coming soon, from wax melt sample kits to some beautiful new fragrances and our New Urban Collection, which will add colour to our candle collection.
So if you want your home to smell amazing, join our Candle Club, or drop us a message, and we can help you choose."

"Another homeware store?!" I hear you say. This one is with a difference.
Wabi-Sabi Home Interiors epitomises the true meaning of sustainability, sourcing ethical and artisan-made products from rural villages worldwide, which supports cultural traditions and income opportunities for families and their communities. Working with fair trade artisans renowned for their highly skilled craftsmanship brings a feeling of humility when these pieces are displayed and admired in our homes.
The concept behind Wabi-Sabi Home Interiors is "perfectly imperfect" (I love this concept so much). We live in a world that strives for perfection, not just in our homes but also in our everyday lives, and this creates overwhelming anxiety - but life isn't perfect.
"I've been practising wabi-sabi for a few years now, probably more so during the pandemic, when Wabi-Sabi Home Interiors started," explains Sarah Ferguson, the founder of Wabi-Sabi. "My creative artistic traits combined with my passion for home interiors led me to reach out to an Instagram account I follow closely (The Dharma Door), who inspired me to start my business.
So what is wabi-sabi, you ask? The Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi has been around for centuries. Its meaning is complex but described as "beauty caused by imperfection. A machine-made bowl is perfect but soul-less. A handmade bowl
has subtle asymmetry revealing the craftsmanship involved in its creation.
"So when asked why I chose this name for my business, I say...It's more than a name; it's a lifestyle and a feeling. Our home is our sanctuary and should create a sense of calm - you can achieve this with natural materials such as wood, stone, linen, cotton, wool, clay (you get the gist), and textured finishes that boast unique natural imperfections are all elements of wabi-sabi."
