GOLF SHOP APRIL NEWSLETTER

Page 1

On behalf of the Golf Shop Team, I would like to extend our best wishes for a successful and enjoyable golfing season ahead.

We are currently in Round 2 of the various Knockout Events, and we encourage all members to schedule their upcoming matches as we enter a busy time of the year.

I would also like to take this opportunity to warmly welcome our new members to Manly Golf Club. We are thrilled to have you join our community, and we look forward to seeing you on the course.

The golf course continues to receive exceptional feedback, with many praising the quality of the playing surfaces. Following a ‘solid tine’ coring renovation of the greens, they have recovered remarkably quickly, thanks to the hard work of our Golf Course Superintendent - Brenden Benad and his dedicated team.

A special mention also goes to the ‘Green Army’ for their continued efforts in maintaining the course to such high standards

JUNIORDEVELOPMENTPROGRAM

For the past decade, Manly Golf Club, with the generous support of its members, has had the privilege of sending one or two of our leading junior golfers to compete in the prestigious ‘International Junior Masters Invitational’ at East Aurora Golf Club in New York, held from June 23-27. This event is renowned as the oldest and most prestigious Junior Invitational in North America, drawing top junior golfers from across the globe.

Last year, Manly’s own Liam Jordan (pictured) made an impressive showing, leading the International Stroke Play after Round 1 with a 3-under-par 68. He went on to finish 6th overall in the Open Stroke Play Championship and ultimately reached the final four in the match play event.

This year, the three junior golfers selected to represent Manly Golf Club are Liam Jordan, Rory Page, and Jack Hugill, all of whom have demonstrated outstanding performance in the NSW Junior Rankings Additionally, all three players have once again represented Manly GC in the Major Pennant Team this year.

The proceeds raised at next Wednesday’s Captains vs. Presidents Day will contribute directly to the Junior Development Program, which, in turn, will help subsidize the boys' travel expenses

Furthermore, members who wish to make a direct contribution to the Junior Development Program may do so by contacting Administration - accounts@manlygolf com au or by accessing the donation form via the link.

HITTINGOUTOFHEAVYROUGH

This week, Philip Baird offers valuable advice to help golfers escape from our heavy rough.

When the ball is nestled down in the rough, the heel of the club tends to dig in first at impact, causing the clubface to close and resulting in the ball veering left or staying low to the ground. In light of this, golfers are advised not to be overly ambitious with distance Instead, they should opt for a club with a bit more loft, such as a 7 or 8 iron, to help lift the ball into the air and progress it down the fairway.

In brief, select a club with more loft, open your stance, position ball forward in stance, 60% of your weight on left leg, firm left hand grip & hit through the ball.
