CHA Report - Albert Rimke

Thanks to everyone that attended the MHA AGM and to Michael Latimer for coming to our AGM. We did have a CHA director meeting since, some of the highlights are:

Beef Improvement Federation (BIF) conference will be coming to Calgary in July of 2023. This conference includes several in-depth seminars of the latest technology and advancement in the beef industry. There are also tours after the conference which would be very interesting to go on.

We had a presentation from the CBBC/CBIN representative on the update of their work on the new EPD system that we may be switching to. Their work is very interesting and a lot of it is producer input.

A part of the Strategic Marketing Plan was to improve the carcass quality of the Hereford Breed. Last year all breeders should have received a report called “The Carcass Merit Decision Tool”. The report listed all the bulls that you currently use. We ask that you look through this report and look at your sire’s carcass EPDs and try to improve your bull battery carcass numbers by 10%. So with that in mind, bull sale season is on, so be sure to check carcass numbers on your possible future herd sire.

Your new CHA president was elected, so with that congratulations to Chad Nicholas of Saskatchewan on becoming the new CHA president. Also congratulations to Janice Tapp of BC on becoming the new Vice President.

After nine years of being your CHA director, I retired and your new director is Janelle Gulka of Twin View Polled Herefords. I wish her all the best and I am sure she will be a great addition to the CHA board, and representative for the MHA. Congratulations Janelle and thank you. With that being said thank you to everyone who helped me during my term.

Good luck calving everyone. Hope to see everyone down the road.
