The Fashion Design Council Of India (FDCI) through its flagship event - The India Couture Week, celebrates the cultural diversity of a country which has been a beacon of light for it's craftsmanship, ingenious textiles, and an array of rich embroideries and technique. The 2016 edition of the FDCI India Couture week was held in Taj Palace, New Delhi and was a host to many notable designers showcasing Indian ethnic wear in different designs and hues.

The India Couture Week was off to a flying start with Manish Malhotra's A Persian Story. The absolutely stunning couture line by the celebrity designer had every bit of drama and opulence that one expects from a Malhotra collection. Setting off the right tone for the rest of the fashion week, Malhotra's collection was inspired by the stunning architecture of Persia. The opening day's highlight was, predictably, actors Deepika Padukone and Fawad Khan. Malhotra's collection was inspired by the stunning architecture of Persia, blooming paradise of fauna and flora, and fearless royals that ruled their vast kingdoms.

Showstoppers Fawad Khan and Deepika Padukone looked absolutely resplendent in ethnic wear. While Khan looked regal in his solid garbs, Deepika’s heavy red lehenga with glittering gold embroidery provided a fitting contrast. The set was also wonderfully designed to match the drama in Malhotra’s designs and to reminisce of Persian architecture according to the theme.

Indulgent hand-woven, gold embroidery on sheer and velvet fabrics in lehengas with sheer tops, opulent velvet jackets over cigarette trousers, exquisite gowns and regal sherwanis, formed the basis of Malhotra’s collection. Model Lakshmi Rana looked stunning in swathes of fabric in multiple hues of red, maroon and brown.
