press.on Print Club is excited to present the catalogue for our latest members’ collaboration: The Inktober Project.

The well-known international Inktober Challenge requests participating artists to create 31 ink drawings on A5 pieces of paper throughout the month of October.

We initiated our own bespoke Inktober project where our members jointly produced 31 trace monotype prints, roughly three each. The subject matter was left up to the artist, and our brief asked for simple sketches.

Some of our prints have titles and some do not. Each print was created in October 2023.

Medium: trace monotype (edition 1/1). Paper size A5 (15 x 21cm).

What is a trace monotype?

This is one of the simplest forms of printmaking. Ink is rolled up onto a glass sheet or perspex plate with a printmaking brayer. A sheet of paper is laid over the ink and the artist draws on the back of the paper using any markmaking tool or even their fingers. The paper is pulled off the plate to reveal the printed image of the artist’s drawing.

Characteristically, the print will have slightly fuzzy lines and areas of soft smudging.
