MONTHLY NEWSLETTER

Note From the President Welcome everyone to our first official Newsletter of the new UNICO year. First of all let me give loads of thanks to Francine Nido for putting together our Newsletter for at least as many years as I've been a member. It is not an easy task and Francine performed it with aplomb. She will be missed but now that she is a national officer. I don't know how she found the time to continue to do it over the last 2 years. She will be missed. Our Mayor for the Day ceremony went off well on October 10th. My only wish is that there were more of our members in attendance. Our Honorary Mayor Fr. Fred Aniello, Pastor of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, was very pleased and humbled by his selection and the entire day, and I received many compliments from spectators and people who attended any of the events. Rich Marano suggested to me that maybe if we moved the luncheon portion of the ceremony to the actual Columbus Day on

Monday that more people would be able to attend. We will have discussions regarding this in the future. As you probably are aware, there has been much controversy in the country in the last few years over Columbus and his legacy including some cities eliminating Columbus Day and renaming it "Indigenous Peoples' Day." I partially addressed this in my remarks at the flag raising, so I won’t repeat them here. If you want to learn the true facts about Columbus , positive and negative, I suggest you read more about this at the Order of Sons of Italy website http:// www.osia.org. You will find listed in the Newsletter upcoming events for the next two months. I especially want to call your attention to the Meet the (National) President Dinner for CT and MA being sponsored by the Torrington Chapter Sunday November

16 at the Elks Club in Torrington. It is very easy to get to, being only a few miles off of Route 8 in the downtown area. The cost is $40 per person. I would like to see a good turnout from our Chapter. It promises to be a good time. and will give you a chance to not only meet our National President, but to bond with other Unicans from around the state. We have a great organization and if you attend you will learn more about it and if you are like me the more you learn the more you will be proud to be a member. So if you can possibly attend you will not be sorry. I will not be at the October Dinner meeting as I have to travel to Arizona for some family business, but I am leaving you in the capable hands of our Vice President Lou Gelada. See you next time! Yours in UNICO,

Frank Travisano
