Welcome to Manchester Adult Education

Here at Manchester Adult Education Service (MAES), we know that learning new skills as an adult can be lifechanging. We also know that it can be difficult to fit study in around the demands of modern life. That’s why this year’s programme is bigger and more flexible than ever before. Whether you want to improve your skills, gain employment or change careers, with hundreds of courses to choose from, there is sure to be one for you.

3 Visit one of our centres: follow the instructions online to either wait for a call back, or be invited into one of our centres to meet a member of our team

3 Click on ‘Apply for a Course’ and complete the short form

4 We will contact you to book your assessment session (at busy periods this could take up to two weeks).

Funding

Most of our courses are free for all Manchester residents over the age of 19, and your eligibility will be assessed at enrolment. Enquire at one of our centres for further information.

You are eligible if you are:

Employed and earning less than £20,888

— Unemployed and in receipt of an income-based benefit

Level 2 funding is available if this is your first full Level 2 on an eligible legal entitlement course

Level 3 funding is available for adults aged 19+ on eligible GM offer/ Free courses for jobs scheme.

Details may change, so check with your nearest learning centre for up-to-date information.

There are also several ways that we can help you:

If you live more than two miles away, we can help you with transport costs

If you have children under three who are not in school, we can pay for childcare while you attend your course

If you need a Disclosure and Barring Service check for your work placement, we can help you pay for it

If there are fees for your course, we can help you pay them.

English as a Second or Other Language (ESOL)

Four classes per week (daytime)

Everyday English

Two classes per week (daytime or evening)

This course will help you improve your English to get a job.

This course will help you settle into the UK and use English in your everyday life.

We offer ESOL courses at five MAES centres plus some community venues, and you can choose from a range of days and times.

Our courses are free of charge and will help you improve your English skills for work and for everyday life.

We also lead the Manchester ESOL Advice Service, working with our partners to make finding a place on an ESOL course easy.

You only need to apply once; our team will invite you for an assessment and help you find the best course.

Develop your knowledge and skills to progress your career in the digital and creative sector, as well as upskilling for entrepreneurial activities.

Digital Marketing for Business

Build an understanding of what Digital Marketing is and how it can help transform businesses. Learn how to develop and execute a Digital Marketing strategy.

Understanding SEO for Business Learn how to optimise websites for Google search using multiple techniques.

Email as a Promotional Tool for Business

Develop the digital skills needed to promote your business online, or take the first step towards a career in Digital Marketing. Create shareable content and design a social media marketing campaign.

Develop the skills and knowledge needed to plan and build successful email campaigns. Learn about the benefits of email marketing and what email content to produce to achieve your goals.

Microsoft for Work

One class per week (daytime)

Digital Office Essentials Level 2

One class per week (daytime)

Being Cyber Safe (Level 1 award in Cybersecurity)

One class per week

Become a proficient user of Microsoft applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, 365 and Teams.

Gain the digital skills you need to progress at work. Develop practical IT skills and build your knowledge of software applications, including spreadsheets, documents and presentations.

Learn about cybercrime and protective methods to be cyber safe. Explore forms of cyber crime and motives, whilst understanding the risks and effects it has on individuals and organisations.
