Students from MRIS Charmwood salute India’s 11th President of India With social stigmas prevailing in our society, I wonder how this mere star gazer born to a Tamil, Muslim and humble household went onto become one of the idealistic minds of the century. Dr. Kalam inspired the young generation to have bigger visions and dreams, to set big goals for them and never think of the trivial. Joel, MRIS CW “Man needs his difficulties because they are necessary to enjoy success.” said Dr Abdul Kalam. The word” YOGA” literally means Union. It is Sanskrit word derived from the root “YUG” - to Join • Union of human consciousness with the universal consciousness. or • Union of Individual soul with the ‘PARMATMA’ or • Union of jiv with Ishwara, the supreme or the ultimate reality or • Union of energy ( Shakti) with its sourse (shiva) the first cause. Usually ‘Yoga’ system (Rajyoga) founded by patanjali is called “Yoga” in books in India. In fact any action system, practice or way that leads to unification of the ‘Jiv’ with Ishwara is called “YOGA”. It is perfect science with certain basic principles .It aims at well being of the universe by promoting peace and justice in society .Any improvement in the society and the world must begin with improvement in the behavior of the individual which can be brought only by Yoga- Yoga being the science of peace. How can a man bring peace to others, who is unable to bring it to himself ? Yoga is no religion or creed, it is a culture. In this science some natural laws are first investigated and there they are applied to body and mind to improve the human personality as a whole. Yoga is also an Art and a very simple one, which everyone can learn with a little effort (especially in the Young age). It is an art of harmonious living. There is nothing in Yoga that is beyond reason. Yoga has three aspects, physical, mental and spiritual. It aims at integrated improvement of all the three aspects simultaneously and development of a well sounded personality.

9

Yoga is thought in modern world in term of “Asnaes” bodily postures, Pranayam (control of breath) and other, feats like Thought reading, Hypnotism etc. Really speaking these are only a few limbs of Yoga and not who really connotes .Therefore it is necessary to remove the misgiving about ‘YOGA’ in the minds of even the modern educated ones. YOGA Practices and usefulness • Helps attain perfect health by increasing stamina, Power or resistance and endurance, sound mind, strong determination, enthusiasm and a balanced personality. • Impart longevity and vitality • Develop psychic power • Awaken all dormant potential faculties and bring out and channelise the inner “Shakti” • Help attain true inner peace and tranquility. • Help achieve power, freedom from fear and spiritual wisdom Yoga is for one and all - Politicians, Businessmen , Administrators, Professionals, Office clerks, farmers, Lawyers, laborers etc. A normal man’s world with all his weaknesses, frailties and errors can adopt the yogic way of life- it is not life cutoff from normal activities. The three principal categories of Yoga are 1) Karma Yoga 2) Bhakti Yoga 3) Gyan Yoga Each category suits people of different temperament. There are many types of yogic exercises e.g Jape Yoga, Kriya Yoga, Kundalini Yoga, HathaYoga and Raja Yoga etc. An experienced guide is required to practice yogic exercises.

M

anali is not for explanations, it should be experienced. The gurgling River Beas, the mighty snow clad mountains and symphony of the birds on the pine trees‌ the campsite itself is an amphitheatre. Thanks to Edterra which as an organisation focuses on the leadership and development of young people through themed outdoor education programs and for bringing us the Skills For Life Quest outdoor adventure program. The camp offers exciting and challenging outdoor adventure activities, workshops, reflective sessions and team games, making it a fun and purposeful life experience. Our journey started on 8th June 2015, with wonderful teachers:- Mrs. Maneesha Kapur, Mr. Ugrasen Kumar Nayak, Mr. Chandan Kumar and Ms. Deepali Aswal to always guide us and support us. We reached the Manali Campsite on 9th June after a 20 hour long bus journey but Oh! Yes, It was surely worth all the wait. The view, the air, the calm, the actual feel of Manali was completely worth experiencing. From the heat of Delhi to the peaceful, beautiful and amazing weather of Manali, we were lucky enough to experience it. The second day we unpacked our bags, freshened up and were ready for the adventure. We enjoyed playing by the river, the hot sulphur bath and a 2 hour long trek. The third day, we went to the Hadimba temple, Hadimba Temple in Manali is one of the major tourist attractions comes in local tourist places. It is a four storey wooden temple. Located in the middle of dense forest Called Van Vihar and from the name of the forest only the temple drives its name. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Hadimba and was erected in 1553. We also visited Solang Valley, Solang Nala derives its name from combination of words Solang (Nearby village) and Nullah (water stream). It is a side valley at the top of the Kullu Valley in Himachal Pradesh, India 14 km northwest of the resort town Manali on the way to Rohtang Pass, and is known for its summer and winter sport conditions. The sports most commonly offered are parachuting, paragliding, skating and zorbing. It was amazing fun. The fourth day we went to Rohtang Pass, Manali is the gateway to Rohtang pass beyond which lie the twin valley of Lahaul and Spiti. In winter the mountain slopes are snow clad and they turn into perfect skiing slopes. This point is one of the main attraction for tourists coming to Manali. Rohtang Pass was so much fun, playing in the snow, enjoying with friends. The experi-

ence was WOW and to add to it, the view was breathtaking. The fourth day we enjoyed valley crossing. Enjoying in the water, the adventure was the one time experience, everyone should go for. Playing kabaddi and volleyball was con-

stant during the whole trip. We packed our bags to leave for Delhi, with an emotional feeling of our last year and last trip. But this one will surely stay in our hearts and minds forever. —Manpreet Kaur

Students share their experiences

It was the first day of our educational trip to Jim Corbett n Nainital. After freshening up we moved out of our hotel in Jim Corbett for a Jungle Safari. Many jeeps were waiting for us in a line, me and my friends with our H.M. Shalini Ma’am boarded the last jeep. We reached the jungle in half an hour’s time. It was an amazing experience to sit in a fully opened jeep and pass through the jungle. As we entered , we heard a variety of birds chirping loudly. The first animal we saw was a languor. As we moved further we saw wide river flowing very fast and many kingfishers’ hunting for their prey on the shores of the river. We, then came across many herds of deer about which our guide told that they were the food for tigers. As it was evening, we started the return journey. To our surprise, we saw a huge tiger bathing in the river. We were so thrilled that we started shouting in happiness, we wanted to go close to the tiger but the guide told us it would move away if the tiger happened to see us.The tiger looked majestic in pale orange colour with black stripes. Unfortunately, we were running short of time as we had to reach the hotel in time so we returned. These memories will stay with me forever. I cann’t forget the sight of the ferocious tiger. It was a great learning experience. Kabir Pundir - 5 F

Usually getting up early in the morning irritates me. But this time, I was so excited about the trip that I couldn’t sleep the whole night and got ready early in the morning. This time we had a trip to JIM CORBET-NANITAL and this was an enjoyable & memorable trip with my teachers and friends. During this trip I learned alot about different kind of animals. Going in Safari was also a good experience. This trip made me independent too. For the first time I did a little shopping for my family. Our teachers were very cooperative and they became our friends in the trip. Thus, overall it was a tiring , short but very enjoyable trip. Vedika Nijhawan VI-D

Nature’s bounty Let’s go out into the sun, run and have fun. When we look up into the sky, We let our imagination fly. And like the fish we all wish, To see the stars that are so far. The god of thunder lives in the clouds and thunders so loud. In the land around the seas, There are so many trees. All of nature is free, That we all can see. In the spring, Al lthe birds get up and sing. In winters we know, That from the sky comes snow. In this world I want to live without greed, but give it all the love it needs. -Nishchay Singh, Grade 3

Faith on Sri Rama

The night was very dark and Mohan was frightened. He had always been afraid of ghosts. Whenever he was alone in the dark, he was afraid that a ghost lurking in some dark corner would suddenly spring on him. And tonight it was so dark that one could barely see one’s own hand. Mohan had to go from one room to another.

As he stepped out of the room, his feet seemed to turn to lead and his heart began to beat like a drum. Rambha , thei r old maidservant was standing by the door. What’s the matter, son?”she asked with a laugh. “I am frightened, Dai, “Mohan answered. “Frightened, child! Frightened of what?” “See how dark It is! I’m afraid of ghosts!” Mohan whispered in a terrified voice. Rambha patted his head affectionately and said ,”Who ever heard of anyone being afraid of dark !Listen to me: Think of Rama and no ghost will dare come near you. No one will touch a hair of your head. Rama will protect you.” Rambha’s words gave Mohan courage. Repeating the name of Rama, he left the room. And from that day ,Mohan was never lonely or afraid. He Believed that as long as Rama was with him, he was safe from the danger. This faith gave Gandhiji strength through out this life, and even when he died the name of Rama was on his lips. Water…Our lifeline

W

ater, a term, an important term for our life. To see it is a small five letter word but to think deeper about it, it means a lot. It is the reason of the life of more than 7billionpeoplelivingonourplanet. Who would imagine that a colorless, tasteless liquid could be so important? Yes, water is the single most useful drink known to man. Its contribution to life is tremendous. We cannot think of anything that does not require water. Water and life are good friends. Without water there can’t be life, without music dance can’t happen, without drum beat no army can march past. Three fourths of the surface of the earth is made up of water. The oceans, seas, Rivers , lakes, ponds all need water to exist. The fish and other aquatic life need water even to breathe. Two thirds of the human body is made up of water. Drinking enough water ensures good skin, hair, nails and good health. It is used for drinking, washing, bathing, cooking etc. A day in our life is incomplete without water in some form or another. Keeping all this in mind ,we must appreciate their replaceable requirement of water we have. We must learn to use it with respect and should not waste water. Conserving and saving water should be the world’s biggest priorities and life’s biggest principle. Let’s take an oath today that we will NOTWASTEWATER…We will conserve water for our next generations……..

Democracy–Diversityand Equality

W

e live in India which one of the largest democratic countries of the world. Freedom, peace, justice, right to vote and public opinion are some important parts of democracy. Equality is also one of them. According to democracy, there should be equality in the nation. Equality means that everyone is equal in the country, no matter from which caste, creed ,gender, religion, region, language the people belong to. Well, I would describe equality in terms of giving everyone equal importance politically, socially and

29

economically. There should be no distinctions among the rich and poor, educated or uneducated. Social evils like untouchability, child marriage and other forms of discrimination should Be strictly removed. Nobody should get more opportunities or less based on birth or social status. At last I would conclude by that we all should follow equality and help the poor. Everyone should be treated equally. Saagar Sharma Grade 7

Director Principal Mrs Sanyogita Sharma addressed the gathering and briefed the students about the healthy practices followed at School. On

the very first day of the session, a workshop on Career Counselling was organized for the students of Grades 9 to 12. “Choose a job you love and you will never have to work for a day in life”, these words by Confucius stand true in today’s scenario when the students have varied options to take up as careers. Mr Girish Ballolla, the CEO of GenNext Education made the children aware of the combination of subjects offered by CBSE and the plausible careers which can be chosen after

studying those streams. He also exposed the students to the innumerable renowned foreign universities which cater to the Indian students with exciting Scholarships. It was an eye-opening session which truly benefitted the students. Their queries never stopped and they left with the message- “If you can dream it, you can do it.” You can do well in a particular field if you are passionate about your work, curious and work hard to achieve the targets.

ublic speaking, Confidence building and 100% Participation are key essential requisites in Grooming a Student… Reduce…Reuse…Recycle…Restore…Replenish! The environment is where we all meet; where all have a mutual interest; it is the one thing all of us share… So keep it clean, green and growing!!! PERCEPTIONS... Mr Sanjeev Kumar Diwedi father of Abhinandan of Grade 7 pens down his thoughts Importance of scheduling at home for a student (parent) e all need some routine and scheduling to be efficient, productive and relaxed throughout the life. Children, in particular, need a daily schedule (at home) in order to plan their day to day routines including studies. Their notion of time is different, A daily schedule sets up expectations and helps, keep track of what needs to be done and what already has been done. By using a schedule the child gets a sense of achievement every time she/he completes a task. Preparedness is a key element in children’s success. Every child doesn’t like surprises and sudden change of routine. Why? Because they feel pushed out of their comfort zone and have to reconsider, recalculate and readjust to the new situation. A schedule is most effective if used consistently at home and at school. For this to work as best as possible, it is strongly recommended that the parents and educators communicate and stay on the same page. Schedule at home helps child in the following ways Does not put a child to cram all his study into one session. • It creates a plan when he/she is going to study. • Provides a specific goal for each study time. • Helps in, Starting with the most difficult subject first. • Helps in, always reviewing her/his notes before starting an assignment. • Makes sure she/he is not disturbed whiles studying. • Makes sure the Review of notes, schoolwork and other class materials time to time.

BAISAKHI, the harvest festival of Punjab is celebrated with great zeal and enthusiasm on 13th April every year and was celebrated in MRIS, Noida with

World Red Cross Day Alleviate Human Suffering!

T

he International Red Cross is an international humanitarian movement with approximately 97 million volunteers, members and staff worldwide which was founded to protect human life and health, to ensure respect for all human beings, and to prevent and ease human suffering. An informative assembly was conducted by the Students of MRIS, Noida on the world Red Cross day; celebrated globally on the 8th of May each year. The purpose of the assembly was to talk about the origin and working of the World Red Cross Society and educate our children about the Principles of Red Cross. “There is no path to happiness: happiness is the path.” ― Gautama Buddha

The word Buddha means “awakened one” or “the enlightened one”.Vesak, also known as Buddha Purnima, celebrates Gautama Buddha’s birth, enlightenment and death. This sacred event holds a great significance not only for the Buddhists but also for all those who believe and preach peace around the world. Our students of MRIS Noida celebrated Buddha Purnima and tried to spread the message of happiness and truth with their peer group through a song and a skit between “Angulimala “and “Lord Buddha”. The skit depicted the message of kindness in a beautiful way, which our students’ took home with them.

Mom is such a special word, The loveliest I have ever heard, A toast to you above all the rest, Moms, you are so special, You are simply the best… One relationship which is always with us is the one we share with our mothers. Mothers shape our lives and our personalities and crediting them for the same is something one should do at every opportunity. Our kids at MRIS Noida, did the same. Making most out of this opportunity, they not only thanked their mothers but also expressed their love through beautiful performances. There are so many ways of celebrating Mother’s Day. Spending time with your child is one of those. Mothers spent lovely time with their children doing activities together and playing games to make their bonds even stronger.
