E V E N EVENTT

The Ma & Morley Scholarship Program has a whole heap of new channels of communication. To make it a little easier to understand, I have created a breakdown.

Program team also uses the below channels to communicate with you all: The General channel is for Program updates that will be communicated with all Scholars and Ambassadors regardless of Scholarship year. Please feel free to share your own events, ideas and recommendations here also!

EMAIL SLACK FORMS ChannelScholar Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholars, Ambassadors, Central Coasters, mentors Slack is our main platform for Program communication and will remain so for the entirety of your journey as a Scholar and Ambassador. If you are wanting to communicate with the Program team (Maryanne and Maggie) about anything, whether that be absence from a Program activity, advice, questions or feedback about the Program or difficulties you are facing, then please send us a TheDM.

Year specific channels aka. 2018 Scholars

We send out anonymous forms after each Scholarship event to help us improve Program activities for the future. But a suggestion has come through to keep an anonymous form open for any Program feedback, whether it be about an activity, or any other suggestions for the Program Youteam.can find the open form here!

MESSENGER

Our email address: mamorley@newcastle.edu.au is always open for feedback, suggestions or for communicating with us if you are needing advice. It is just an extra channel of communication between the Scholars and the Program on top of our Slack channels.

MA &TEAMMORLEY AUGUST -2022SEPTEMBER

The Scholar channels are for Program updates that are specific to your Scholarship year group, and are usually about upcoming Program activities. Once again, you can feel free to share your own events, ideas and recommendations with your fellow Scholars.

The other channels are for groups within the Program that are not Scholarship year specific. We have set these up for you all to communicate with likeminded Scholars, so if you do have updates, ideas or recommendations that are specific to these groups please share them!

A new Scholar-run Slack channel has been created by the Scholar Advisory Group, and includes all Scholars and Ambassadors from across the Program. The Program Team is not included in this channel, and is specifically for Scholar-to-Scholar support and communications.

The Messenger channel will continue as a social space for all Scholars and Ambassadors to catch up, check in and plan/share events with each other. Please remember to be respectful of each other in this space, but also continue to connect more with each other. If you are not part of this Messenger group and would like to be, you can reach out to another Scholar to add you or you can send a message to the advisory team on the Slack.communication-advisory-groupscholar-on We are really looking forward to seeing how the Scholar-led channel further supports you all in having voice in the Program!

WHAT IF I CAN'T MAKE A CORE PROGRAM ACTIVITY?

We are always here to support you! We have a whole lot of contacts across the University who we can point you towards if you are having any difficulties throughout the semester. Another great resource you can use are the University of Newcastle Learning Advisors or access the Academic Learning Support resources here. You are also lucky to be part of a whole group of students on the same journey as you in the Ma & Morley Scholarship Program! If you are unsure of who to contact within the Program, please reach out to the Program team and we can link you up with a fellow Scholar who might have some great tips to support you!

HAPPENS

WHO DO I CONTACT IF I AM STRUGGLING ACADEMICALLY?

Core activities are the main activities that your stage of the Program is required to participate in as part of your commitment to the Scholarship. The core activities are usually those that are integral to the stage of your Program, such as the Welcome Program in Stage 1 which helps build connections and the Leadership Intensive in Stage 2 for fostering leadership capabilities. Yet, we understand that there are extenuating circumstances that mean a Scholar may not be able to participate in a core Program activity. This is usually because of illness, unforeseen commitments outside of the Program, or personal/family emergencies. We ask that if you are unable to attend a core Program activity that you reach out to the team and let us know so that we can make sure that we have your explained absence on record. If you have a class or tutorial that is scheduled for the same time as a Program activity, you can reach out to the team to help make alternative arrangements to ensure your attendance, as we are happy to reach out to lecturers and tutors to support your participation in Program activities.

The panel will consist of Uncle Paul Gordon, Charlotte McCabe, Professor Tim Roberts and Caroline Pidcock. The event will take place from 6pm - 8pm at NUSpace X502. Get your tickets here!

A Zoom meeting will be taking place at 5:30pm regarding the Ling Jun category. If you were still wanting to make a written suggestion regarding the category please submit via this form by Monday 5th September.

The 2022 Scholars will meet together on campus to reflect on the year so far. The session will take place from 3pm - 5pm at the Treehouse in the Shortland Union Building. The session will give Scholars to the chance to not only reflect on the year that has been, but start to explore what the Scholarship will look like for them next year as a Stage 2 Scholar.
