Daphne and John Randolph are a newly retired couple who are wanting to renovate their New York City apartment. As a former fashion designer and English professor, the Randolphs value creativity and a beautiful living space. The couple has two adult children who visit frequently, and enjoy entertaining friends and family.
Now that they are retired, the Randolphs want to allocate space for entertaining friends and family. They also want to have a space for their children to stay while they are visiting the city. Lastly, the Randolphs want their home to reflect their love for the city.
ABOUT THE CLIENT PROBLEM CONCEPT
As lifelong New Yorkers, the Randolphs admire the iconic art deco style seen in famous New York landmarks such as the Chrysler Building and the Empire State Building. To convey a feeling of sophistication and elegance, the Randolph Apartment renovation will include geometric shapes and patterns, a moody color palette, metallic finishes, and classical inspired architectural elements.

ABOUT THE DESIGNER
For as long as I can remember, I have always had a passion for expressing myself. Whether it be through music, art, fashion, or design, I felt a need to share this love with others.
I have always had a fascination with leadership and people. Even as a little girl pretending to be the owner of a retail store, manager of a classroom, and head of a household, it was clear I had a mind for business.
My study of interior design and business at the University of Alabama has allowed me to combine these interests to learn to improve and elevate the lifestyles of others.
design philosophy
I would describe myself as a people person. It is important for me to be observant and aware of others’ thoughts and feelings. What drew me to study interior design is the impact a space’s look can have on a person’s wellbeing. As a designer, I have the power to manipulate the way people live, think, and feel in a space. I believe that when you love the look of your work environment or home, the happier you will be.
Design is one of the most powerful ways of communication. When walking into a space, one should be able to recognize the occupant’s intentions, beliefs, and personality. The key to conveying the identity of the client is to be an empathetic and personable designer. Understanding people makes for a successful designer.
