Nestled close to the thighburning climbs of the Tramuntana Mountains, the northern coast of Majorca is a real draw for pro cycling teams. Stay at Alcudia, Puerto Pollensa or Playa De Muro and you’ll be within easy reach of routes that explore the island’s interior, such as the loop around Inca, which has a total ascent of 360m. The area is also a great base for taking on the challenging 86km long, five-hour route from Puerto Pollensa to Campos. 1

The vibrant south of Majorca has a range of flat routes for speed training and is still just a short ride to the West coast’s mountains. Three routes close to Palma Nova, including the Calvia loop, have gentler gradients, making them ideal for all ages and abilities.

ICONIC ROUTES
The route to the Lluc Monastery is a dramatic climb through rocky terrain. You’ll traverse hairpin bends as you scale the Coll de Sa Batalla on an elevation of 384m. At the top you can stop off at the cafe and take in the wonderful views of the Tramuntana mountain range. For an even sterner challenge, you can take on the Sa Calobra climb. It only begins once you’ve conquered the Col de Cal Reis at 682m altitude. It has an astonishing 26 hairpin turns as well as an average
gradient of 7%. Take care of the sheer drops on the descent too. Meanwhile, the 40km ride to Cap de Formentor is a strong contender for the most scenic route. After a hilly start, the smooth (recently re-laid) road flattens out for breathtaking views of the sea and steep cliffs along the peninsula.
