Local Lincoln swimmer Hannah Bates joined the thirty four strong New Zealand team heading to the Bahamas for the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG) held from July 18th through to July 23rd. Hannah qualified for the CYG team in April this year with the 200m and 400m Individual Medley, the 100m and 200m Butterfly and the 200m Backstroke events. Hannah’s hard work and dedication to her swimming brought about some fantastic results, with the pinnacle being when she won the Bronze medal in the 100m Butterfly with a time of 1:01.27. Hannah also went on to make the finals for both the 100m Butterfly and the 200m Backstroke event after being placed fourth and eighth respectively in the heats. Hannah’s first final was the 100m Butterfly, in which she went out strong, turning in fourth place. She gave it her all, and came home stronger to finish in third place! Three minutes later she was back in the pool for the 200m
