The annual Firefighter Sky Tower Challenge took place on Saturday, May 22nd, in Auckland. This event is a fundraiser for Leukaemia and Blood Cancer New Zealand (LBC). Each year, Firefighter’s race up 51 flights of stairs (1,103 steps), at the Auckland Sky Tower, while wearing their full kit to help raise vital funds. Every day seven children and adults in New Zealand are diagnosed with a blood cancer like leukaemia, lymphoma, or myeloma. LBC is the national charity dedicated to supporting patients and their families, this support can last months or even years. LBC receives little government funding, so this event is a vital source of much needed contributions. Local Kirwee Volunteer Fire Brigade members, Dale Evans, Evans Jonny Hamilton, Hamilton Mat Redmond and Blair Jones, Jones took on the Challenge and completed it! The team had a few hours to wait until their climb on Saturday, so
went out for a light breakfast to take their minds off the task ahead. Dale completed the event in an amazingly fast time, with Jonny following close

Luke Simpson from the Darfield Voluntary Rural Fire Force, raised an impressive
$1,567.90 and Philip Hunt from Darfield raised a fantastic $1,666.10.
