The team at Annabel's Educare, Darfield have been thinking about how they are going to commemorate ANZAC Day this year. “This is our call to all children in New Zealand before ANZAC Day, Saturday April 25th,” said a teacher from Annabel’s Educare. “This is a day where we remember all the people before us who helped form New Zealand into the country it is today,” they commented. “To support this day we are calling all kiwi children to get creative. We would love to see you use your imagination and creative skills to make something that represents New Zealand, then hang it on your gate for all to see,” they added. “This could be a poppy, a New Zealand flag, a traditional wreath, or a kiwi itself. Come on kiwi kids, lets get behind ANZAC Day and start getting creative.”
Red poppies are traditionally worn on and around Anzac Day as a mark of respect to those who died while serving their country. The poppy has its origins in the early twentieth century, when red, or Flanders’ poppies bloomed over the graves of soldiers in France and Belgium.
An example of recently made wreaths made in honour of those who served their country.
