THINK ABOUT IT If you were informed that there was a killer on the streets, randomly targe ng innocent people…… But you didn’t know where they were, you couldn’t see them from your window, but you knew they were there. Would you nip out? Would you let your kids out the door? Do you see where I’m going with this?

So we’re hopeful of being on the home straight of this lockdown - how have we all been doing? I understand from Facebook there’s been the odd ****hole attempting to commit crimes locally, under the shadow of darkness, but generally it would appear we’re all taking this very seriously. As we should! I’m totally blown away by the photos of inventive crafts, baking and games, as well as caravan, or tent, sleepovers on lawns and in paddocks. To be honest I’ve never seen so many happy, healthy children on my newsfeed - they seem to be loving the time spent with their parents and pets. However I think my dog is still in two minds about whether she likes the change in routine or not! Some folk have really put their all into making the best of their unscheduled time off - dressing up to put out the bins - music jam sessions on Houseparty, or competitive quizzing on Zoom all helping to keep boredom at bay. Folk have taken to DIY in a big way, along with de-cluttering cupboards and garages and I think we’ve all realised the benefits of staying in some sort of routine. I’ve been very glad of my well stocked pantry cupboard and while online shopping sounded good in theory - it didn’t always work out that way! So I’ve cooked and baked and steadfastly managed to avoid, cleaning the car (after all I’m going nowhere in it), weeding the gardens, cleaning the windows, sorting the wardrobe and emptying the
freezer. I have however used more internet than I ever thought possible and I can’t entirely blame it on working from home. Netflix, Lightbox, Neon and my current favourite (for old people!) Acorn, along with family video-calling has eaten up gigabyte after gigabyte. Thank goodness for unlimited! I’m very fortunate to have family living locally and while we’re not in the same bubble they have been incredibly helpful with deliveries of groceries and fresh
produce. Each day I listen to the ‘Daily Briefing’ and feel a great sadness when I hear of those who’ve died. But even more so for those who loved them and couldn’t be close. I fear for the elderly (i.e. older than me!) in our community at this time, and hope they put aside their fierce independence and allow those around them to assist when needed (from a suitable distance, of course). I’m sure many share my sentiment of hoping this will end
at the conclusion of week four but to end too early would literally be fatal. We’ve already proven we can weather adversity, by emerging through the earthquakes, I hope we can all pull together, support each other and survive this too. Keep safe, take care, stay home and keep in your bubbles!
