The annual Hororata Parish Spring Fair welcomed a big crowd under sunny skies on Labour day, October 28th, and all enjoyed the traditional Fair atmosphere. “The Fair is the Hororata Parish’s biggest fundraiser each year, but more than that it is a wonderful community day,” said Vicar Jenni Carter. Carter The event was again part of the Beca Heritage Festival which brought a unique aspect to the day. “We wanted to connect people to the stories of our past and we did this by giving cemetery tours. With St John’s Church being several kilometres away from the Fair venue at the Domain, we transported people in vintage cars to the cemetery. We are very grateful to those locals who brought their stunning cars out to drive people. Young and old were delighted with this opportunity,” Jenni explained. The Country Auction is always a big attraction at the Fair and this year was no exception. The addition of the Agri Garden Art competition (where local blokes were challenged to make a garden creation out of wood to be sold at the auction to raise funds for the Parish), was again an entertaining and exciting feature. “A huge shout out to our very talented local blokes who created eleven unique, amazing and clever Agri-Art sculptures which raised over $1700 for the parish,” said Agri art organiser Yvonne Cookson. Cookson “People’s Choice Award went to Tim Cookson for ‘Macrocarpa Throne’ and the Top Bid Award went to Brendan Albon for ‘Veges at the Gate’.”
