A fabulously warm, sunny, day arrived for the annual Hororata Spring Fair on Labour Day Monday. Hundreds of local families and visitors took advantage of the brilliant spring day to visit the Hororata Domain and to enjoy what organisers had laid on for them. Bargains were found in the ever popular ‘White Elephant’ and bids were keen at the ‘Country Auction’. It was reported that good fun was had by all, with many families taking part in the Kid’s Sack Race, while things got a little bit trickier in the Egg and Spoon races and side lines got a little dodgy for the ‘Gumboot tossing’. Creative Kids ‘Water Works’ theme this year saw some really clever entries submitted. These

included a working model of water pumping in and over a waterfall, paintings of the cycle of water and the winner of the top award ‘Vicar’s Choice’ this year went to Abigail Driscoll, Driscoll for her lake inside a cake. “We couldn’t have asked for a better day,” said Rev. Jenni Carter. “It was a lovely relaxed afternoon. People could enjoy the goodies on offer, catch up with neighbours and welcome newcomers into our community.” The day provided a wonderful family day out and raised the funds necessary to continue support work in the community. The event raised more than last year, at just over $12,000; with raffle takings still to be counted. Cont on page 11…
