On Friday, January 20th the combined efforts of the Malvern Bowling Clubs came together to raise a massive $2,430 for The Malvern Cancer Support Group. T he s uppor t gro up i s enormously grateful to Nancy Hayton, Hayton Patron of Malvern Bowls for sponsoring this event and to the Darfield Bowling Club for hosting it. “It was such a lot of fun and a great idea for a fundraiser,” enthused Malvern Cancer Support Group spokesperson Elaine Guy. “A huge amount of work was done before the event, and behind the scenes, by a fabulous group of people. In particular thanks must go to Margaret Gray and Pat Maxwell who managed to pull it all together, even Mother Nature came to the party as the sun shone on us.” The day took the format of a fun filled afternoon for the Malvern community to join together and enjoy lawn bowling games. “Newcomers, children and experienced bowlers all took to

the green for a relaxed and enjoyable opportunity to show their skills and impart their bowling knowledge to a greater or lesser (in my case!) extent,” laughed Elaine. “This was followed by a wonderful afternoon tea that was provided by the Darfield, Coalgate, Kirwee and West Melton Bowling Club members.”
In the preceding weeks both Margaret and Pat had spent the days canvassing the Malvern community businesses for donations for a raffle and the generosity shown was both exceptional and humbling. There were approximately one hundred raffle prizes drawn on the day.
