ROLLESTON LIONS UPDATE

April was a busy month for the Rolleston Lions, with lots happening, and it looks like May will be just as busy. Members braved the weather and the mud to feed the crowds at the South Island Agricultural Field Days, in Kirwee. Our hot food was in great demand, and we sold out of hot dogs and bacon sandwiches at one stage.

We had a very successful Colour Fun Day in March and are hoping this will not be the final one after all. Members also collected for the annual Blind Low Vision Appeal and raised over $1,100 at New World in one day. Our next appeal is on Friday 5th and Saturday 6th of May, for Aviva, which is the new name for Women’s Refuge. The name was changed as it is not only women who suffer from domestic violence.

We also attended and sold hot dogs and chips at the Relay for Life at Brookside Park, on April

29th, with all proceeds going to cancer support.

Speaking of cancer, there is an exciting nationwide programme being launched this year to do with fighting melanoma. The South Island of New Zealand has one of the highest rates of melanoma in the world, and it is not always easy to detect. I know this from personal experience, so you will hear more about what the Lions are doing to help. Watch this space!

ROLLESTON POP-UP MARKET

The Rolleston Pop-Up Market will be held this Sunday at Clearview Primary School!

Hannah Hunter , a local Templeton resident, has been running the Hornby Indoor Market for four years and has created an amazing outlet for small businesses to display and sell their crafts and creations.

The variety is endless and includes jewellery, plants, bath and body products, knitting, home decor and much more, as well as coffee, sweet treats and several food trucks.

The Market has a large following on Facebook and great reviews, making this a must-do weekend attraction held on the third

Saturday of every month in the South Hornby School Hall. Hannah is bringing her market to Rolleston this Sunday with over ninety stalls to browse including several food trucks. Find the event on Facebook for updates and sneak peeks or see the advertisement beside for further details.
