WEST MELTON BOWLING UPDATE

The season for West Melton bowlers is drawing to an end as most Interclub, Malvern and Club competitions have been completed.

Any Combination Eights Division

1 competition on Saturday mornings, the West Melton 1 team played consistent bowls to win the competition and in doing so, won the Manning Cup.

Congratulations to Andy Weber and Bob Burnett, who played in the Bowls Canterbury Club Executive Tournament and won first prize, which was the B.S. Johns Cup.

The Harcourts Rolleston sponsored Super Pairs competition, played at the Club on Saturday afternoons, concluded on Saturday, March 11th. Congratulations to Andy Weber , Kevin Harris and Sonya Boskell, who after ten rounds were declared the winners.

The Slipper Trophy, donated to the Club by David and Ana Gooch, was played for on Wednesday, March 15th. The format was ten ends of target bowls, and the winners were Gretta Leigh and Peter Thomson

The Malvern Fives Finals were eventually played on March 18th at Oxford. West Melton 5, included Allan Sadler , Graeme Carr , Brian Hecker , Bruce Christenson and Keith McMecking (Reserves Terry Butland and Dennis Herrick) won their semi-final against West Melton 4, and went on to win their final against Oxford 5. Congratulations to all of these players.

Results of the Women’s and Men’s Club Championships that have been completed were:

• Club Championship Women’s Pairs: Lenore Armstrong and Karen Feathery.

• Club Championship Women’s Triples: Brenda Dunlop, Lenore Armstrong and Sonya Boskell.

• Club Championship Men’s Pairs: Phil Townsend and Bob Burnett.

• Club Championship Men’s Colts (1 and 2yrs): Phil Townsend.

• Club Championship Men’s Under 5’s: Peter Thomson. At the time of writing, we have one round left of the Two Fat Possums Sponsored West Melton Social Bowls. After the disruptions caused by Covid over the last two years, it was good to see a full green again.
