ISSUE 1,119 Friday 26th January 2024

TEAM EXCEEDS FUNDRAISING AIM Kirwee Rugby Football Club (KRFC) recently took part in raising funds for the Child Cancer Foundation at The Long Run event organised by the Crusaders. Together with the community, players, staff and members, the Crusaders aimed to run 10,000 laps of Rugby and Malvern parks and raise $100,000 for Kiwi kids diagnosed with cancer. Four members of KRFC finished in the top 20 out of 1485 runners. Ryan BayesMortimer, Brad Cattlemole, Daniel Falconer, and Liam O’Callaghan helped their team of 12 raise $4000 for the charity. The club members ran approximately 500 laps with six of the members running a full six hours and together they exceeded their original goal to raise $1000, becoming the seventh overall highest

earner in the Teams division for the charity. KFRC Long Run organiser Daniel Falconer says he was “really proud” of how his team stuck in there and continued to run the whole day in extreme heat. Raising funds for child cancer has special meaning for rugby player Liam O’Callaghan. “Having had cancer as a child, I know how much the money raised means to the kids and their families battling cancer,” says Liam. “Every dollar counts. Overall it was an awesome event and we will be back next year with an even bigger target to chase.” The Club helped the Crusaders reach and go beyond their target of $100,000, with the total amount sitting at $122,742 at the time of the Malvern News going to print.
