DARFIELD HIGH STUDENTS OFF TO NATIONAL AWARDS Darfield High School students Molly Macpherson and Jayden Lancaster have just won the Young Enterprise Scheme (YES) Canterbury Ōtākaro North division with their cup boost creation and are heading to Wellington for the National Awards Gala on December 4. The successful entrepreneurs both felt “super” grateful for the opportunity and didn’t expect to win as they were competing against some “really good” businesses. “We are super excited to go to Wellington and compete there. We are both so proud to represent our region and are working hard on getting our business out there and boosting our sales.” Their mentor and local business owner Ann-Maree Ozanne was awarded the Regional Distinguished Mentor Award and is heading to Wellington with the students. “To say I am proud of them is
an understatement; it brought me to tears,” says Ann-Maree. “To win against all the other schools that were part of the YES programme in Canterbury is a huge achievement and it’s so great that students from Darfield High are off to the National Awards!” Ann-Maree was approached by their Business Studies teacher, Mr Josh Jackson, and asked if she would consider becoming a mentor for the YES programme. “As a business advisor, it was a natural fit and I was delighted to have the opportunity to help young entrepreneurs reach their goals,” she says. “Mentoring Molly and Jayden from the original conception of their product through to being with them to celebrate winning the Canterbury Ōtākaro North division has been a wonderful experience. I am so proud of their achievements and to see
them grow both as individuals and entrepreneurs has been so rewarding.” Ann-Maree can’t wait to see how far the bu dding entrepreneurs can take their product and what the future holds and adds that having the opportunity to guide
young people to develop and grow a successful business is something she would highly recommend to other business owners. “Especially for those business owners with skills in finance, marketing and product development.”
