GET CREATIVE ABOUT WASTE

Lincoln Envirotown Trust is encouraging creative school students to think about waste differently and enter the Selwyn Waste Art Competition.

The Competition is open to all students in Year 7 or above attending Selwyn schools or being home schooled in the district.

The art pieces must be assembled or constructed from previously used materials that otherwise would have likely gone to landfill. The artwork is aimed at making people reconsider their views on rubbish and reusing. All entrants receive a prize, with special prizes awarded for age category winners, as well as an overall prize.

The presentation of awards will take place in Te Ara Ātea, Rolleston on the weekend of 26th and 27th August, and the art will be exhibited at the venue during this period. This is the perfect venue, and Lincoln Envirotown are very grateful to the Selwyn District Council’s Community and Learning team who invited us to enjoy the use of this space again. The response to this recently introduced project has been overwhelming. In 2021, there were twenty two entries, and last year there were thirty four pieces of art presented. The judges from the Youth Council, along with a local artist and library team member were hugely impressed with the high standard of work.
