ABlackDiamondsGoldenOldies game against West Melton on Saturday was a great collection of past Selwyn players and new to the Club friends, a close score was finished o with a great run away try then scored by Referee Simon Lee Simon Lee Lee.

An Anniversary Dinner was held

that night at the Clubrooms. It was a special night in front of friends and family for two Selwyn Club members, Pete Pete Pete Pete McAndrew McAndrew McAndrew McAndrew and Tim Rhind Tim Rhind Tim Rhind Tim Rhind, as they were inducted as Life Members. An honour acknowledging the contribution madetotheirClub.

Unfortunately,Timwasunableto attendbutdidpassonhisthanks and fond memories of the Club. A big thank you to all who were behind the scenes in putting this weekend together, and the Club hopes everyone who attended enjoyed reliving some great past seasonsofrugby.

A wonderful celebration of creativity over Easter weekend was enjoyed by many visitors to theeighthEasterArtWeekendat

Castle Hill. The main exhibition contained pieces from forty two di erent artists, with 116 creations in the Village Hall. The Hall has just had a new coat of stainandpaint, anditlookedthe part to show o such creativity in the mountains. Supported by the Castle Hill Village Association, theopeningevening was beautifully calm and a perfect setting to unveil the oils, acrylic, pastel and watercolour paintings, as well as sculptures in ceramic and stone on display. These sat alongside photographs, linocuts, prints, pen and ink drawings, feathers andtextiles.

On Saturday and Sunday, the

main exhibition was supported by workshops around the village and smaller artworks and products for sale in the Selwyn District Council community marquee; a wonderful display of a wide range of creativity inspired by the area. On both days, visitors to the main exhibition were refuelled by Village Co ee and delicious cakes and yummy slices sold by an enthusiastic team of younger volunteers.

The weather on Saturday was perfect, and the Selwyn Libraries Edge Connector Vehicle (with Billy and Sarah) wasin residence for the day, with a multitude of activities for kids and a supplementary workshop for adults by Izzy Malone - beautiful flower needle felting. Other workshops for children included

craft, beading, trickle painting stones, zentangle and slime making! Meanwhile, adult workshops were entertained with a botanical walk, photography walk, stone carving and fabric flowers workshops. The last of the workshops on Saturday was the children’s ‘Decorate your bike’ competition, which displayed no end to the creativity of children of all ages, wellworthyoftheprizes. Sunday arrived with kids finding that Easter Bunny had been busy in the high country with the Annual Great Easter Egg Hunt, followed by more children's workshops. Adults enjoyed some Duoandmorezentangle-before the community helped pack up the day for a day of rest on Monday.

Castle Hill Creative’s organisers

are very grateful to the Castle Hill Community Association for hosting the openingevening and providing seed funding for the event, and to Selwyn Libraries, who paired up with them again fortheSaturday.

Elaine acknowledged, “the strength of the group, along with the strong community fundraisingsupport, tothestrong foundations and the significant number of existing founding and early members that are still activeinourgroup.”

The number of volunteers is a testament to the Group’s longevity as it will be enjoying forty years in November since its conception. The Group has remained strong through a common thread of helping and

supporting those with a cancer diagnosis as well as their families.

Fliss Cox Fliss Cox was elected as the new Chairperson, Ainsley Ainsley Burton Burton was elected as the new Secretary and Annette Stewart Annette Stewart Annette Stewart remainsintheroleofTreasurer.

DARFIELD GUN CLUB

A small turnout attended the April 2nd shoot at Darfield Gun Club.Isuspectthegale-forcenor -westers predicted were a major deterrent. Sixteen hardy souls contestedthefinaltworoundsof the Presidents Trophy, which commenced in March. The April shoot was a 20 target Continentalmatch, followedbya 10 pair of Double Rise, which was very challenging in the strong winds. Once again, the Eye-opener was di cult with

just the three possibles all in A Grade. The 20 Continental match proved di cult for the lower grades, and the leader board changed quickly. It all came down to the Double Rise with Brodie Mangels Mangels intheBox Seat with 57 leading the way, Murray Robertson Murray Robertson Robertson Robertson was 1 point behind courtesy of the B Grade Handicap Allowance of 6 targets over the first three rounds. With another 2 targets in the Double Rise, it was going to be a nail-

CLUB TRAINING DAY

Saturday, April 8th, was a Club TrainingDayattheMalvernRifle Club, over 300, 500 and 600 yards, with 10 counting shots at each distance. This also enabled some shooters to ‘catch up’ on a round of the Club Championship that they were unable to complete on the scheduled day. Some shooters were testing equipment or ammunition and chose not to have their scores recorded.

The weather was fine but cold, with a fickle wind blowing from the targets towardsthe shooters.

GOOD FRIDAY
At Trinity Church onGood Friday, twelveStationsoftheCrosswere opened for visitors, family members holidaying in Darfield and localchurches. Children followed their parents as they 'journeyed', around the different spaces to remember, renew and refresh the Good Friday message. At one station, prayers were written on sticky notes and placed on a wooden cross.

Husband: “Who is Valerie?”

Wife: “Nobody, I just wanted you to answer that way I would have confirmation that you saw my text”

Husband: “But I’m with Valeri right now, I thought you saw me?”

Wife: “What??! Where are you?”

Husband: “Near the bakery”

Wife: “Wait there, I’m coming right now to meet this Valerie and give you both a piece of my mind.”
