Continued from front page. It has been a huge comfort to them, and in particular to Maurice, knowing how much Margaret meant to the customers who became their friends over the many years they lived in Darfield.

• “Margaret was a lovely lady. I enjoyed going into the Drapery shop. She was always the same and you were greeted with a smile. The world was a better place with Margaret in it.”

The well-known wooden horse was a real draw card for many children. In 2020, Maurice gifted the horse to Darfield Property Brokers, and it is fitting that the horse now sits in pride of place in the window, for the local children to continue to enjoy, as it did fifty years ago.
