GIFT LAMB CLASS

The Gift Lamb section of A&P Shows is a special area allowing farmers to exhibit lambs, as well as give a financial boost to the Show. This year's Malvern A&P Show Gift Lamb Convenor is Tim Wright , this is his first year in the role. He has been in the cattle section for the last eight years. His family has a long history of involvement with the Show and Tim has only missed two Malvern A&P Shows since he was born.

“The Malvern A&P Show is a family affair for the Wright family. I have had numerous family members who have been past Presidents. I thoroughly enjoy spending the day at the Show with my family and hope the Gift Lamb section is well supported. It’s wonderful to see some many people giving back to the Show via this wonderful class,” commented Tim.

Tim’s role starts prior to the day as he tries to make contact with as many farmers as he can between Arthur’s Pass to Darfield and up to the Rakaia Gorge, covering all areas in between, hoping to get as many Gift Lamb entries as possible. The Friday prior to the Show, Tim and a group of willing helpers collect the lambs and take them to the Showgrounds for judging the next day. The lambs are judged on the hoof, with prizes up for grabs for first, second and third, as well as some category prizes. The lambs are trucked to the works on Sunday, and the Malvern A&P Show Association receive the generous funds these lambs make. People do not have to pre-enter this class, so if you have a lamb you would like to enter and donate it’s not too late, get in touch with Malvern A&P Show Secretary, Rebecca Stewart , and she can put you in touch with Tim. As long as Tim is aware of your lamb before Friday, March 24th, he will arrange for it to be collected. Let's get as many people as possible to support this fabulous class and help raise vital funds while enjoying some friendly competition.

Farmlands Cup

As well as encouraging school entries in Art sections, the Malvern A&P Show committee love to encourage as many entries as possible in all children’s classes. They like to boost participation from young people in the district. So, in 2021 the Farmlands School Cup was launched. The Cup was kindly donated by Farmlands and sponsored by the Barnhill Family

This initiative was a great way for children in the area, to not only do well for the collective good of their school, but also to compete in their own right. Malvern students who are twelve years and under can enter for themselves individually, as well as for their school, There are no entry fees for these students and late entries will be taken up to show day.

The school or educator who gains the highest combined tally for eligible classes, will be presented at a later date with the Farmlands Cup, as well as $150 prize money.
