BOWLS DARFIELD RAISED FUNDS
Due to heavy rain, Bowls Darfield had to cancel their annual One Day Tournament on Sunday, March 5th.
This event is always well supported with a lunch and raffle, with fantastic prizes donated by sponsors. The local sponsors who had donated prizes for the Tournament kindly advised the Club to keep the prizes, so on Saturday, March 11th, Bowls Darfield decided to have a dinner, and raffle off the prizes to raise funds for Cyclone Gabrielle Relief.

After very enjoyable games of mixed triples in the afternoon, players and their partners enjoyed a game or two of Cornhole, and a nice dinner. Lots of laughs and a crazy auction or two followed with the end result being that Bowls Darfield raised

“A big thank you goes out to our generous sponsors and all the members who supported this event,” commented Jo Latter

The Darfield Premier Cricket team travelled to Cheviot for the final round-robin match of the season with nothing on the line, as a top four finish had already been secured.
Batting first on a green, seaming wicket was a difficult task for Darfield, made more challenging with several representative players away.
Their total of 124 from 39 overs was arguably acceptable considering the surface, but Tom Dempster (29) and Jayden McIntyre (33) especially will be disappointed not to have made more from their starts.
Cheviot generously gifted 25 wides, and Will Anderson picked up 5 wickets for 41 runs. The second innings was a 3-part drama. Scott Burnett smacked
52 runs, and his team raced to 52/2. Darfield made a spirited fight back to take control of the match as the hosts slumped to 99/9, with Liam Foulkes grabbing 5 wickets for 33 runs. The final part saw a 25 run partnership for the last wicket, as an injured Johnny Fitzpatrick guided his team to a tie with a booming 6, and the win was delivered with a wide.
Darfield 124/10 from 39 overs
Tom Dempster 29
Jayden McIntyre 33
Will Anderson 5/41 from 7.5 overs.
Cheviot 125/9 from 33 overs
Scott Burnett 52
Will Smith 17
Johnny Fitzpatrick 17*
Liam Foulkes 5/33 from 9 overs.

Saturday, March 11th, was the 7th and final round of the Malvern Rifle Club Championships. It was ‘Longs’, 10 counting shots at 800 and 900 yards.
It was a fine, sunny afternoon with a light but changeable wind, which proved hard to read and predict. Allan White and Chris Kershaw, Sam Riddle and Sam Kershaw shot ‘Bisley Style’, at 800 yards. Sam and Sam shot individually at 900 yards.
Saturday, March 18th, the Range is closed as many club shooters will be competing in the Nelson Championships in Westport.
Contact details can be found on the Malvern Rifle Club Facebook page: Malvern Rifle Club
