LOCALS IN FARAH PALMER CUP Two local girls, Lucy Jenkins and Hannah King have made the 2022 Farah Palmer Cup (FPC) Canterbury Team this season. Lucy (21 years old) plays flanker and is never far away from the action. She tackles hard and turns over lots of balls. This is Lucy’s fifth year in the team. Hannah (18 years old) plays first five and has been in the Canterbury development side for two years. This is the first time she has made the squad. Hannah's strength is her running and passing game, and is a great tackler. Both girls have great rugby brains, read the game really well and train very hard. Both Lucy and Hannah started their careers at supportive local rugby clubs. Lucy played for Kirwee until Under 11, when she moved to West Melton. Hannah played all of her junior rugby at West Melton Rugby Club. Now Lucy plays for Christchurch Football Club and has played over sixty games for them. Hannah played two seasons for Christchurch before obtaining a rugby scholarship for Lincoln University, where
she currently plays. “It is fantastic that Women’s rugby is growing in strength. The FPC season started with a game against the Canterbury development team last Saturday, at Orange Theory Stadium, and

our first competition game is on Saturday against Wellington. Canterbury are hoping to gather back the Farah Palmer Trophy after losing in the final to Waikato last year,” Hannah commented.
