Born and raised in West Melton, Sam Dickson (32 years old), will be captaining the New Zealand Men’s Sevens team at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England. The Commonwealth Games will take place from July 28th to August 8th, with the Sevens competition beginning on July 29th. Sam attended St Thomas of Canterbury College and played for West Melton Rugby Club in his younger years. He played AFL (Australian Football League) for New Zealand in 2010 and 2011 and has been in the All Black Sevens since 2012. He has played in sixty World Series Tournaments, one World Cup and Olympics, and this is about to be his third Commonwealth Games. “It's a privilege to be named as captain of the team. It was never a goal, but I couldn't turn down the opportunity. Especially to captain the team at a Commonwealth Games where we have had such a rich history,” commented Sam proudly. “After the disappointment of getting injured right before the Tokyo Olympics, it’s great to be back for the Commonwealth
