SELWYN SWIM CLUB PRIZEGIVING FOR 2021/2022 SEASON The 2021/2022 swimming season has been one that Selwyn Swim Club are very proud of. A few key areas we have been particularly impressive in are our culture, performance and potential. Through a tough year of programme structure and coaching changes, further Covid19 impacted events and preparation, our team has withstood some tough challenges with the aim of representing the Selwyn Swim Club and our community to the best of their ability. Even-though racing and trainings were impacted, our swimmers and Club success were still widespread and high-achieving. We were represented at National and International Meets and there were a significant number of Club records broken across all age groups. Our Age Group Trophies are based off using XLR8 points and FINA points to determine our winners. XLR8 is a four-event score which includes a distance event (400m+), an IM event (200m+) and your next two highest scoring events. FINA points is a single event score, with the world record representing 1,000 points. • Bennett Cup - Junior Female (12& under) highest XLR8 points: Laura Menzies • Junior Male Cup highest XLR8 points: Josh Read • Craythorne Cup - Int Female (aged 13-15) highest XLR8 points: Holly Smith • Overend Cup - Int Male, highest XLR8 points: Flynn Grace • Prusas Cup - Senior Female (16 & over) highest FINA points score 607 in 50 backstroke: Chloe Newbigging • Sutherland Cup - Senior Male highest FINA points score 570 points in 800 Freestyle: Ben Smith. The next set of Trophies are for varied Sporting and Team Performances, recognising that for us at Selwyn high achievement is more than just swimming fast, it is about team culture, leading by example, challenging yourself and being a good team mate. • Sinclair Trophy, sponsored by our previous Head Coach (Ellie Sinclair) for the biggest

improvement in the 100m Freestyle: Kelicia Purcell Pryde-Wall Distance Trophy sponsored by our previous Assistant Coach Rhys, is awarded to the swimmer who has the highest FINA point total from the 200 Butterfly, 400 IM and either the 800 or 1500 Freestyle: Georgina Christie Open Water Trophy is awarded to the swimmer with the best Open Water Performance, prioritising the NZ Open Water Championships, followed by the NZ Secondary Schools Open Water Champs, or South Island Secondary Schools event: Holly Smith Edwards Trophy for excellence in Para Swimming is awarded to the swimmer who has

demonstrated perseverance and determination in sport: Ieuan Edwards • Russell Trophy recognises parent input and support for our Club: Sam Newbigging • Taylor-Hayhurst Cup for Selwyn Spirit is awarded to a swimmer who lives by Selwyn values - they are dedicated, work hard, listen well and are a leader in team support: Toby Benison • Selwyn Sports Person of the Year is awarded to the highest achieving swimmer in the Club: Ella Benn A new Award this year, is the George Kral Legacy Shield, in memory of valued Club member George who passed away in February 2021, to recognise long -standing commitment and

positive culture influence for the Club: Ieuan Edwards. The Selwyn Swim Club’s potential is significant. This past year has seen a bigger engagement with more swimmers within the programme, while also now opening our doors to future swimmers in the Learn to Swim stages. The next 12 months is about taking the next step to encourage commitment to our sport and our programme through fun

and exciting events, connection to our swimmers and families, and finding ways to make swimming a passion long-term. If you are interested in swimming, upskilling in water safety, or swimming skills, racing or being a part of our Club, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us on Social Media (Facebook and Instagram). Rachel Close, Selwyn Swim Club.
