The Sheffield Volunteer Fire Brigade were delighted with the turnout at their Wheels and Wings event on Sunday, May 1st. This was their first fundraiser since Covid-19 restrictions were lifted. “The weather was great, even though the wind was a bit of a nuisance. Those who attended had a fabulous time viewing everything that was on offer,” commented Nev Croy, Chief Fire Officer, Sheffield Volunteer Fire Brigade. Approximately 500 - 600 cars, tractors and trucks were exhibited and there was a great static display from the team at Heritage Helicopters. Independent Helicopters also had a set up with a monsoon bucket, showing how this unit is often used for fighting big fires. A Trojan Aircraft owned by Brian Hall got everyone wondering, as they heard it first and then saw it as it flew over the grounds. The glider taking off and landing created heaps of interest, with a lot of eyes looking skyward. Also in attendance was the Bikers Against Child Abuse (BACA) Motorcycle group, who are an amazing group of people who look after children who have been abused at some time during their life. Twenty eight stallholders were selling a wide variety of different products and the food stalls all

Kats Tyres Rolleston gave $1,000 towards a new set of tyres, and local Springfield company, Alpine Jet Thrills, gave a prize for a Canyon Safari, valued at $550. “This was the last time the event will be held on the farm with Charlie and Jo Draper as owners. The Brigade are very thankful and fortunate to have

been able to run the event on the farm for a good number of years. The new owners Peter Morrison and Liz Nattrass, are in total support of this event and will do all they can to keep it running on their farm in the future. “I would like to thank all those who were involved in the successful running of this event, especially Charlie Draper and Graeme Piper for all the work they did behind the scenes.

The people who worked on the gate were kept busy most of the day and did a fantastic job. The Coalgate and Springfield Fire Brigades did an amazing job with parking everyone. To the stallholders, people who showed their vehicles and planes, and to everyone who came along and supported this fundraiser, this event would not happen without your support, ” Nev concluded.
