ISSUE 1,028 Friday 18th March 2022
So far 2022 has been an exciting time for Springfield School Principal Keri Steele and the Springfield School community, as they opened their doors for the first time at their brand new school. The School was earmarked for a complete rebuild in 2019 and is now complete and buzzing with students. Springfield School Board of Trustees and staff worked closely with PXA Architects, SSL Project Management, Mātauraka Mahaanui and the Ministry of Education to design the new school building. The building has three flexible learning spaces, breakout spaces, administration, resource and staff areas. The next major project for the School consists of landscaping and has been designed to be completed in seven stages, three of these stages are basically complete. In October the School hopes to
officially open the new rebuild and celebrate their belated 150th Jubilee which was delayed due to Covid-19 and the rebuild took longer than anticipated. The students are very pleased to be in their new learning spaces and are very proud of their new school. Below are a few comments from current pupils: Ollie - “The new school is big, nice, luxurious and it is fun to be in. It has a lot of room for us to put up our work. There is a nice shared space where we can
work together.” Levi - “The new school buildings are awesome. The building is so cool and the whole school fits into one building! We have great spaces for our bags and belongings. It feels like home.” Amy - “The new school is really big, and it is easy to move around. I really like using the whānau space, it's awesome because the whole school can use the space to work together.”
Following on from the Malvern Community Board report in the Malvern News last week - the team looked a bit more in-depth into the Springfield Water Crisis. The Springfield township was hardest hit in the flooding event in late May last year, which saw 200 people across Selwyn
displaced from their homes. Around 380ml of water fell on the Springfield area and The Bishops Gully channel (the Upper Kowai water race) overflowed in several locations in the township. Murray Washington Group Manager Infrastructure from
Selwyn District Council (SDC) supplied the following information.... “We acknowledge that the ongoing water issue in Springfield is causing severe inconvenience for the whole community, I can assure the township that resolving the problem is a key
