The Courtenay A & P Show looked very different this year. It had to be run over three days, with Dog Trials competing on Friday, November 19th, Equestrian and Gift Lamb Competition on Saturday, November 20th and Equestrian again on Sunday, November 21st. Even though it was very quiet compared with a usual show day, it wasn't without its dramas! Horse convenor, Jocelyn Thrower, Thrower broke her foot two days before the show and on Sunday morning a judge rang to say he was sick so it was a frantic ring round to find a replacement. Despite all this, the feedback from competitors was positive and we were able to trial having live horse results on our website. Our groundsman, Stu Begg, Begg has been working very hard to keep the showgrounds in pristine condition and we had a brand

new jump for the ring which was made by Andy Thompson and David McConchie. McConchie It was partially sponsored by new sponsors, Absolute Homes. Kristal Merry very kindly travelled from Christchurch both days to photograph the riders and their horses, which can now be viewed on her website. At the Dog Trials, there were forty four dogs competing and the Gift Lamb Competition drew in thirty five lambs! The lambs are judged on weight, with an under 40kg class, over 40kg class and a prize for the heaviest lamb. After judging on hoof they are taken to the works and judged on hook and a prize is given to the highest commercial valued lamb. Everyone who donates a gift lamb to the Courtenay A & P Association goes into a prize draw to win some amazing prizes. Continue on page 6…..
