STAMM
interview with elisabet stamm
As a child Elisabet spent her days daydreaming in the swing or travelling long hours with her dad in his truck. They would travel places like Russia and Poland listening to german radio days on end Elisabet quietly drawing sketches of his profile or curiously staring out the window taking in what passed her by. Their was a simple rule - five ice creams a day if she dared ordering them herself. This subtle lesson from her father seems to have had an impact: the rewards are ample if you dare to ask for what you want. “I suppose that’s where my ‘globetrotter’ was born. I create stories in my mind.“ Elisabet tells us that she still does that when she get’s the chance. Meditation is also a part of her daily life and routine - looking in and looking out she calls it or going for a walk in her own mind.
on technical snore & sustainability
For a second I fall a sleep inside, when I hear the word ‘technical’ or ‘functional’. But yes, I work with some functional fabrics. I try to give them life, even if they were born half-dead as they are not natural but man-made. I experience that what people most refer to and are presented with as ‘technical wear’ or ‘functional-wear’ is often clean-cut and streamlined. With STAMM I try to add life and shape to manmade fabrics, twist it around so that I brings in natural fibres like silk and
I used to study art history Rembrandt is one of my heroes: How he worked with light and made honest and real portraits of emotion and character in a time where it was strictly about presenting a certain class.
I get inspired by the artists within any field. Who can capture the tension within darkness and light, who can express themselves and still be humane. I like super-heroes, but I love everyday heroes.
Personally I try to think of it as ‘work-in-progress’. I don’t have to see the whole sustainable stair-case to take the next step.
Everything we do should be open to the question - can I make a more sustainable choice - Admitted, I make horrible choices too. If for instance I want something sexy I would use PVC and not recycled plastic bottles, I’ll go for the aesthetic choice.

”i think right now fashion has become my tool, i think it could be other things too. i got professional within this field. perhaps if i keep going, i'll become a true fabric-wizard.”

when seeking inspiration ... ”i think of sustainability as a holistic approach to something that should be interconnected but not a selling-point.”
