WEEK 1: THE BEGINNING The first week was an introductory glimpse of the course with initial sketching practices

In our first week, we participated in various in-class activities. These activities involved creating timed drawings to enhance our sketching skills and creativity. Instructions were provided in class.

We had to complete three two-minute drawings, two five-minute drawings, and one 30-minute drawing, all based on provided

In the second week, we completed two in-class activities. The instructions were provided during class.

Activity 1: We scanned one of our existing drawings and downloaded an image from sources like Unsplash, Pixabay, or Pexels. In Photoshop, we adjusted image resolution as needed, focusing on file management.

Activity 2: We improved a scanned JPEG using the Camera Raw Filter and other adjustments.

The enhanced image was saved as a JPEG with ‘_adj’ added to the name. Both the original and adjusted JPEGs were posted for comparison in the activity discussion.

WEEK 3: PERSPECTIVES Week 3 was enhancing our sketching skills by focusing on cubes, expansion, and exterior structures, all as 3 seperate activities.

Activity 1 was drawing nine cubes freehand in 2-point perspective, pushing our estimation skills to the limit. We then refined our cubes with red lines to enhance their three-dimensionality.

In Activity 2, we expanded our understanding of perspective by drawing a cube and using a formula shared in class to scale it.

Activity 3 offered creative freedom as we utilized techniques learned during the week.

The task was to draw an exterior view of a structure, with the option to infuse sculptural elements. The catch? We were encouraged to leave our construction lines intact for a unique artistic effect, emphasizing the essence of architectural exploration.

WEEK 4: ILLUSTRATOR Week 4 opens up with a new software, Illustrator, where we explore different elements within it.

In Week 4, our architectural journey took a digital turn as we delved into Adobe Illustrator, meeting a realm of creative possibilities. The central task for the week was to use the tools we’ve learned in Illustrator to craft a stylized version of a building. This exercise allowed us to apply our newly acquired skills in a practical setting.

The heart of the activity revolved around reimagining a modern building. While the initial directive was to create a modernized building, it was a chance for each of us to infuse our unique artistic sensibilities. Like me, many decided to take this opportunity to add a personal twist, embracing the world of digital creativity.

By pushing the boundaries of the software and embracing different tools, I not only was able to expand my creative horizons but also brought a new dimension to my architectural artwork. The result was a delightful fusion of modernity and whimsy, where architecture met artistic innovation. Week 4’s activity underscored the power of digital tools to breathe life into architectural design, demonstrating the limitless potential of our, at the very least my, 8-week creative journey.

WEEK 5: TYPE AS IMAGE Week 5 introduced us to a variety of ways we can incorporate fonts within Adobe Illustrator

In Week 5, our architectural journey took a creative turn as we explored the artistic potential of typography. Our task was to select three descriptive words, choose a font, and use color and text-editing techniques in Illustrator to convey their emotions visually.

We used typography as a means of expression, playing with fonts and colors to bring words to life. Our typographic creations

were exported as jpg files and shared in the activity discussion, showcasing our individual interpretations and creative choices. This week was all about the fusion of design and emotion, as we discovered the power of typography to convey feelings and ideas in our architectural journey.

WEEK 6: DIAGRAM In week 6 we began to learn how to manipulate images in Adobe Illustrator.

In Week 6, our architectural exploration continued, this time going even further in the world of Adobe Illustrator. The primary objective of the week was to leverage the tools and techniques we’ve acquired within Illustrator to craft our own stack diagram compositions, a pivotal skill for architectural design.

The core of this activity revolved around the manipulation of design files, either our own or those provided in the resources. These resources included a DWG base plan, a block diagram, and a bubble diagram. The workflow demanded clear attention to detail. It began with cleaning up the DWG file in AutoCAD – a series of steps like exploding, layer organization, pattern removal, and purging to ensure a refined base plan.

Once within Illustrator, we had the creative freedom to enhance the DWG by adjusting line weights and adding color areas. This stage allowed for the infusion of artistic flair into the design process.

One unique aspect of this week’s activity was the opportunity to incorporate personal design elements alongside the provided ones. Each student had the choice to resize, 12 Th e 8 -Week Journey

rotate, and arrange these components to their liking. Adding a title, labels, and connecting paths became integral parts of our stack diagram compositions.

Moreover, the selection of colors played a pivotal role in conveying the intent of our designs. This task was an exercise in visual communication, demonstrating how well-chosen colors could impact the perception of architectural concepts.

Throughout the process, we were encouraged to apply any Illustrator tools we had learned thus far, emphasizing craftsmanship and creativity. The outcome was a well-crafted stack diagram composition.

Once the composition was ready, we exported it as a .jpg and shared it in the discussion forum. This week’s activity not only expanded our Illustrator skills but also illustrated the practical significance of these tools in the architectural design process. It was another enriching step in our ongoing 8-week creative journey, showcasing the dynamic synergy of digital tools and architectural expression.

In Week 7, we delved into the realms of Revit and Enscape, bridging architectural design with 3D modeling. Our primary task was to create a conceptual mass in Revit, adding levels, mass floors, and applying architectural elements like floors, walls, curtain walls, and roofs.

WEEK 7: REVIT MODEL Week 7 unfolds within the Revit software, where we are introduced to mass modeling.

WEEK 8: COLLAGES In Week 8, we honed our Photoshop design skills by delving into the art of creating captivating collages.

In Week 8, our task was to craft a collage in Photoshop, employing the techniques learned.

This included using transform tools, filters, and masks to bring creative visions to life.

After creating the collage, we transitioned to Illustrator, where we added text elements that complemented the composition. Font choices, color, and placement were key considerations.

Upon completion, we exported the artwork as a .jpg and shared it in the activity response.

Week 8 emphasized the power of digital design tools in producing visually striking collages, marking another significant step in our 8-week journey through architecture and technology.
