Encasing architecture
We are extremely proud to be supporting Malone RFC, who have played such a significant role in the rugby community both locally and nationally for over a century.
At this time, Walsin and Malone make a great team as both are aiming high; Malone on their rugby journey and Walsin experiencing unprecedented growth to become one of the largest facade companies in Ireland.
I have always had an interest in the sport, having played for my local club for many years and was delighted to be asked to get involved with Malone. Staff members regularly attend home and away games and there is a real buzz in the company around the club’s recent successes.
So far we have been delighted to play a small part in the club’s ongoing refurbishment programme and will continue to support Malone RFC as it goes forward.

President’s Message
A warm welcome one and all as we meet to enjoy the penultimate home AIL game of the season.
Our guests from Barnhall are led by their president Francis O’Kennedy, a man who went out of his way to make us feel welcome and look after us at Barnhall, it is a pleasure to see him and his team at Malone.
A first time welcome to our special guest for today’s lunch, Carl Frampton. Carl needs no introduction and it will be intriguing to hear him speak after the lunch.
Another first time welcome to all our school leavers from Campbell College, Down High School and Sullivan Upper. I hope you all enjoy the day at our wonderful club and get a taste of what we are all about, and I hope to see you all in a Malone playing shirt very soon.
Ben Halliday hits his 100th AIL game today. That’s a fantastic achievement. Ben has been at Malone since he started playing mini rugby in primary five. A oneclub man and an unmovable stalwart of our 1st XV - congratulations Ben and I hope, many more games to come - but celebrating your 100th cap and your stag on the same day? That’s some hangover awaiting you!
Our Womens team have just nudged ahead in the Ulster Premier League with a great win over Omagh recently. They start their defence of the Junior cup on Saturday
Today’s lunch
sponsored by:
at 2.00pm when they take on Dungannon at Gibson Park. If you can, get down and support the women. How good would it be for the Women to win back to back league and cup doubles.
Our mixed ability team, the Tornadoes, are in action today, straight after the 1st XV game with Barnhall. They are playing the Dragons All Stars, who, no doubt, will be heading over to Kingspan straight aftewards to support their senior side in the game against Ulster. It’s their first ever game outside Britain and their first on the island of Ireland- give them a big cheer. I hope that some travelling Dragons fans will also make it to Gibson Park to cheer them on.
We fight on in Divison 2A. There are still four sides fighting to stay out of the bottom two places and it looks like it may go all the way to the final game. In the reverse fixture at Barnhall the home side ran out convincing winners, but Malone still managed to score four tries for a bonus point. Last time out at Navan the side played well in a close encounter, trailing just 17-21 with 20 minutes to go. Unfortunately we went down to 14 men and the home side saw their opportunity and grabbed it - a couple of late scores putting a slightly unfair slant on the scoreline.
I do feel though, with a big home crowd and a lot of noise, Malone may just start to put together a run of wins to take us to safety.
Enjoy the day, Ken

Our visitors today MU BARNHALL
Barnhall arrive at Gibson Park in third place in Division 2A of the Energia All-Ireland league, their place in the play-offs seemingly secure. They sit in third on points difference, they and Cashel both on 46 points - can either launch a late attack on the seemingly uncatchable Nenagh Ormond? Possibly not - but the aim for Barnhall must be to secure second place and a home play-off and hope that Nenagh slip up in the run in.
The big story is that even at this late stage in the season, no-one in the bottom four is safe.
Looking ahead to the last day of the season Malone play Greystones and Navan play Ballymena, they could all be deciding games but if Malone can put together a run of games they could still see themselves lift out of the bottom two places - there is still all to play for.
Barnhall Rugby Club primarily serves the towns of Leixlip, Maynooth, Celbridge, Lucan and surrounding areas with a combined population of 150,000+, the club is a focal point for the local communities for many social and cultural activities.
They have a membership of approx 900, with mini rugby, youth, womens, senior men and the Buffalos, a mixed ability group, making up the membership.
Barnhall Rugby Club was founded on 16 May 1969 by employees of Irish Meat Packers, Barnhall, Parsinstown, Leixlip, County Kildare. The first full season was 1969/70 when Barnhall played in the J5 O’Connor Cup. At the start of the following 1970/71 season, the committee decided to find games for a second team. The rationale for this move was that the club had no chance of progression or even survival unless a second team was put on the field.
Barnhall Women lift the All-Ireland Junior Cup earlier this year.
League team having spent most of their time in Division Two.
Im 1979 Barnhall began its pioneering involvement in the development of Youth and Mini Rugby in Leinster.
1986 saw the club purchase its grounds from Irish Meat Packers for £77,000 and by Clubhouse completed at a cost of £200,000 and officially opened by President Mary Robinson.
In 1999 Barrnhall won promotion to senior statusand since then Barnhall have established themselves as an All-Ireland
Club began a partnership with NUIM in developing NUIM Rugby Academy and a fusion of Rugby activities in both establishments and by 2010 NUI Maynooth and Barnhall cemented their Partnership by renaming the club as NUIM Barnhall and in 2015 to the current MU Barnhall, reflecting the university's change of style to 'Maynooth University'.
Malone’s womens team had a close contest with Barhmall Women at the start of the season in the All-Ireland Junior Cup, losing out the visitors who went on to retain their trophy 15-6 against Tuam\Oughterard in January of this year.

MINIS AT NAVAN
Our Mini rugby squad had a brilliant day at Navan recently when they played a series of games against the local mini rugby side and then watched the 1stXV game - all finished off with pizza at Malone when they returned. Our thanks to Navan for the great welcome.

This week brings up the 100th cap of Ben Halliday, one of Malone's most celebrated prop forwards.
Ben started his rugby career at Malone in the primary five squad and played through each level of youth rugby, gaining represtative honours at Ulster u-18 Clubs, u-19 and u-20 before moving to the senior ranks.
Since then he hasn't looked back. Some McCrea Cup success with the 2nd XV in multiple years came first, followed by his most memorable achievement - winning the league and gaining promotion to 1B in 2017/18.
In recent years, Ben has been a 'first name on the teamsheet' sort of player for Malone 1st XV. It's rare to find a prop who is equally comfortable on both sides of the scrum, but also with an equally good skillset everywhere else on the pitch. Ben also been a great advisor to the coaching team this year around the area of the scrum, where he brings so much passion and expertise.
This is a proud day for Ben's family, who are hosting a home stag for him at the match this afternoon. Particularly his father John, who coached Ben throughout his mini and youth days at the club and brother Chris, a proud Malone Viking and Tornado.
Ben will marry fiancé Nicole in May and we wish them all the best for their future.
A big day for a true Malone man that will surely be celebrated properly by his close friends and family. Congratulations Ben. ‘Up Above’.
Proud to be Malone Mini Rugby main sponsor

‘THE JACKAL’
Carl “The Jackal” Frampton has proven himself as one of the world’s leading professional boxers in a
On turning pro in 2009,Carl climbed the ranks, winning both the IBF and WBA Super-Bantamweight belts, before going on to win the WBA Featherweight Championship, beating Leo
In doing so he made history by becoming the first Northern Irish fighter to hold world champtionsips in two weight classes including the WBA (Unified) and IBF super-bantamweight titles between 2014 and 2016, and the WBA (Super) featherweight title from 2016 to 2017. He also held the WBO interim featherweight title in 2018. At regional level, he held the European and Commonwealth super-bantamweight titles between 2011 and 2014. Regarded as one of the most exciting boxers to watch in the ring, he was an aggressive fighter with destructive punching power, intelligence and speed. Carl’s grounded personality, entertaining style and humour have won him an intensely loyal and vocal following amongst the boxing community and further afield. His popularity stems not only from his success in the ring but also the strength of his community and family values.
Carl is now a prominent supporter of local charities and amongst others supports the Northern Ireland Hospice and is a patron for Northern Ireland Integrated Education, campaigning for children from different religions to be educated together rather than in separate schools.
His next venture that packs a puch is his Jackal Whiskey - an exceptionally smooth drink with notes of vanilla, honey and spice, and follows through with a warm, lingering finish. You can get your hands on a bottle of Jackal Whiskey, signed by Car after the pre-match lunch.

I would like to welcome Adrian and the Barnhall squad to Belfast for what should be a great game.
It is a huge game for us after 2 disappointing defeats in previous outings. A varied approach both sides of the ball today as well as a large home support should hopefully bring us the win!
It is great to be able to acknowledge club stalwart Ben Halliday today on reaching the 100 AIL Club. A true servant to the club who has played all his rugby here. Ben is a quiet man, but when he speaks the lads listen which is testament to the respect everyone has for him.
I would like to welcome all the schoolboys from our local schools. I hope you enjoy the game and experience what Malone Rugby Club is all about on and off the pitch.
