THE ANSI STANDARD The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) is a private, non-profit organization that promotes standards for industry and government. The ANSI/ISEA 107 - 2010 is now the approved 107 Standard on High Visibility Apparel offering garment categories of Performance Classes. These Classes are based on worker hazards and tasks, the job site’s complex background and vehicular traffic and speed. While the requirements for reflective apparel remains largely unchanged from the second edition (ANSI/ISEA 107-2004), there is a new requirement that includes a minimum amount of retro reflective material in the shoulder area. The new standard does not make any changes to the amount of background or reflective material required for the performance classes. Our clothing has and will continue to meet these requirements while we change our labeling and certification procedures to conform to the ANSI/ISEA 107-2010 standard.

Performance Classes and scenarios depicted in this brochure are intended for assessment purposes only. Certain specific conditions such as atmospherics, sight/stop-distance, training, regulations, proximity, etc. must be taken into account in any final hazard/safety assessment. Vehicle speed should not be considered in isolation to these variables. Extreme conditions might exist which require performance levels in excess of Class 3. What ANSI 107 Garment Class does the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) 2009 require? For all workers, including emergency responders, within the right-of-way who are exposed either to traffic or to work vehicles and construction equipment within a Temporary Traffic Control zone, MUTCD 2009 Section 6D.03 requires Class 2 or Class 3 garments of ANSI-107-2004 or equivalent revisions, such as ANSI 107-2010, if labeling requirements are met.

ANSI What is Class 2? Class Class 2 apparel is necessary for workers 2 exposed to traffic traveling over 25 mph and who work against complex backgrounds.
What is Non-ANSI? NON Non-ANSI garments are color enhanced and ANSI offer an additional level of safety for low risk activities, but do not meet ANSI standards.
