REFLECTED

At the spine of North Tryon, where the city’s energy reverberates, a path unfolds—leading to the heart of the city, Charlotte, where its history and growth echos along the journey. Our site emerges as a conduit of urban life, rooted in the heart of the local communities. The Mecklenburg Emergency Response Control Institute (MERCI) rises as a state-ofthe-art facility, reflecting the city’s journey while channeling its vibrant pulse.
The building stands as two harmonious elements, each reflecting the other in form but contrasting in function—one, private, dedicated to control rooms, offices, and emergency operations; the other, public, with spaces for gathering, including a dining hall, auditorium, and exhibition halls. Linking these distinct identities, a bridge soars, spanning across the natural plaza. This open-air sanctuary creates a soft divide between the private and public realms, while a green roof weaves them together in seamless unity. Blending the two distinct buildings together with a seamless connection.
The building breathes a vision of sustainability, crafted to achieve net-zero energy. It generates life - carbon neutral, water efficient, and energy abundant - sustaining itself and the world around it. Powered by solar energy, the building landscapes and green terraces breathe life into the project, with serene water bodies, tree-lining the southern edges, and lush gardens inviting moments of relaxation and connection, fostering a bond with nature. This design aspires to more than function; it is a testament to the city’s essence, where sustainability, community, and the pulse of urban life converge in a poetic harmony with nature
