Tuesday Morning Bowls - Visitors Welcome 8:30am for 9:00am start

The committee is settling in at present getting into their roles. A lot of work has already been accomplished.

Secretary and Grant Committee: Working on support letters for a new grant. We are applying for 15 sets of junior bowls through Sunshine Coast Council major grant closing 14th March 2022.

Treasurer: We have a new tyro for our bar arriving in the next couple of days. This will also bring down the monthly expenses.

Games Director and Advertising: A yearly calendar is underway starting with a St Patrick's day to encourage new members in March. Should be a great day with raffles and prizes including best dressed in green. This event is advertised in several places so keep an eye out for it.

Organising stats for all games which are being collected for the Christmas party at the end of the year.

Maintenance and Green: The green has been booked Saturday 19th March for a major service/repair. We will have 8 rinks to play on very soon. The solar panels are not working and we are waiting on a quote. Blocked drains at the rink will be looked at when the rain stops.

Providore: New line of beer from Brouhaha to try out. We are interested to hear your comments.

Chairperson Wendy Bulger and Secretary Brett Gillis have been attending Sunshine Coast District Bowls Association Junior Development meetings since July 2021.

Of the 18 bowls clubs in the district 8 of them have agreed to participate in the establishment of a Junior Bowls initiative.

In coming weeks a letter from SCDMBA will be sent to all schools in our area inviting them to make contact with Maleny Bowls Club to participate in junior bowls activities as part of their sports curriculum.

This includes Maleny State School, Maleny High School, River School, Independent School, Montville State School, Conondale State School.

In preparation of the influx of junior lawn bowlers the Board is currently applying for a Sunshine Coast Council Grant of $7,500 to purchase 15 sets of junior lawn bowls to complement the Sporting Schools junior kits of rubber bowls for the younger children we already have.

Our plan is to introduce children through their schools to the great game of lawn bowls from which we will endeavour to attract new junior members to the club. We will then cater for these children with coaching, training and fixtures to improve their skills. Participating clubs will then conduct inter club competitions to hone their skills further. An annual secondary schools statewide competition is conducted to showcase the talent of participants. State, National and International opportunities are available for the best of the best.

As well as attracting junior members to our club we would also endeavour to sign up parents and carers to also join creating a broad range of new members. secretary@malenybowlsclub.com.au
