Our monthly Board meeting was held on Monday 10 December 2018 with Graeme Glover, Joe Walters, Jim Wiedman, Kay Gesch, Dennis Kyling, Judith Lees and Brett Gillis in attendance.

Apology: Bryan Fripp.

Items discussed and actioned include: ● Treasurer’s Report Brett gave a comprehensive electronic report via the television screen. Once again, we are in a decent financial state even with the numerous washouts we have experienced this year. This last month we have had a positive return and looking good.

● Games Director Report We have had a comprehensive report full of excellent suggestions from Miles Allan for improvements to games etc, This will be detailed in our December newsletter for the information and comment by all members.

● Greens Directors Report Roy Gesch has requested we get the Greens Groomer serviced.

This request was approved with thanks to Roy for his diligence.

● Bar Managers Report All very positive here, we have averaged the usage of 6 Kegs of beer per month, at a better return than bottles. Particularly now that there will be a price increase in beer due to the recycle return plan.

● Club Maintenance Graeme Glover is in discussions with our electrician Aaron and it appears we may look at changing the west lights to LED and they are looking at the best options. Since we have not experienced any issue with the east side we plan to concentrate on the west side.

Both are conscious of the Lux issue and will take into consideration. secretary@malenybowlsclub.com.au

Club Insurance Policy It was a reminder that we need to get any visitors to sign in so we are covered. J Walters is to get a hard copy of our policy for the board and any members to pursue if required.

Hazard Report, Bowls Cart Wheels As the present castors are failing due to a poor lightweight frame, we plan to remedy this by a better bottom frame with new castors.

Ray Ellmore has offered his services and J Walters to assist. Dennis again expressed his concern that not all members were aware of our WHS manual at the bar, mainly those who are working in the bar. Also that not all dogs were on a leash. While the system is not perfect, most agreed it is generally under better control now than other years.

Defibrillator This is now installed and Joe Walters is to train any interested in its usage.

ATO Public Officer Brett advised us that the Tax office will send us a letter showing who was the PO and we then will renominate one who is currently on the present board. To be done for the January Board Meeting.

Aussie Day Expo Brett is looking for assistance to man our booth and again will be published in the newsletter requesting same. We have a Marquee on loan from the Garden Club at no charge to the club.

Encourage Full Membership As full members are eligible to: 1- Play in away games 2- Play in Club Championships 3- Sit on the Board 4- Be present and have a vote at all general meetings.

We plan to encourage any social members to join in.

New Web Page Brett Gillis will send in the performa he has developed to the MDSRC so they can add us to the system. we will develop this in concert with MDSRC.

Initial Discussion of Pricing Bar pricing as well as social games costing to be looked at by the new 2019 Board, and discussed at the AGM or next General Meeting.

Preparation for Transitioning to new 2019 Board of Directors The secretary is to send a email to all full members to advise them that Brett Gillis, Treasurer, and Joseph Walters, Secretary will not be standing for those positions for 2019 and also all positions will be declared vacant, and to encourage all full members to nominate for the 2019 board. Also to remind them membership fees are due prior to the end of 2018.

Scroungers Later Start in Summer Judith Lees has been asked to see if there is any interest in a later start for this event. This suggestion will be published in our December Newsletter asking all if they have any opinion on this, We will look at this for next year.

To All Members, I speak on behalf of all the board in wishing everyone a happy festive season with family and friends.

Your support for us as a board has been appreciated as we have shown both a willingness and openness with all members in our governance of the club to make it the best possible place it can be for all. In return your positive support has been appreciated.

It would be remiss of me as Chairman not to publicly thank all the board members for their support and hard work and visibility around the club doing all those things that make us such a great place to meet and greet.

This modelled behaviour has become important as I also thank everyone who gives so much of their time as a volunteer without this we could not provide the services we do now for our members. Thank you one and all for your continuing efforts.

On behalf of our members I also say thanks to the volunteers of MBC you are the true champions of our club.

What a great year 2018 has been we have continued to thrive financially as well as upgrade and maintain a program of club facility renewal. This happens because of two things, beers and bowls.

Having said that it is with your continued support as a bowler, social participant or volunteer that will see this pattern continue well into the future. Our club is well accepted within the community with your continued positive support being vital in maintaining this excellent reputation.

Thank you all for 2018, bring on 2019, Merry Xmas to everyone, enjoy your well earned rest with those important to you, your family and friends.

It’s all about families having fun together – and it’s FREE entry for all!

Passports and Stamps: Lions will give ‘Passports’ to families at the entrance gate; we will provide the stamps to you on the day to use at your display stall. This means families have to visit every display to be eligible for the prizes; all passports must be returned to Lions entrance tent by 11.00 am to go into the prize draw at 11.15 am.

Maleny Bowls Clubs Annual General Meeting will be held at the club house 8 Bunya Street, Maleny with members encouraged to attend.

As per the Constitution all Board positions will be declared vacant with nominations sought for 2019 committee.

This year both our Secretary Joe Walters and Treasurer Brett Gillis have indicated that they will not be re-contesting their positions in 2019.
