Our monthly Board meeting was held on Monday 12 November 2018 with Graeme Glover, Joe Walters, Jim Wiedman, Dennis Kyling, Judith Lees and Brett Gillis in attendance.

Apology: Bryan Fripp and Kay Gesch.

Items discussed and actioned include: ● Treasurer’s Report Brett gave a comprehensive electronic report via the television screen. Once again, we are in a decent financial state even with the numerous washouts we have experienced this year. The Plum Pudding Day was a financial success once again and contributed well to our profits.

● Chairman’s Report It was suggested we now call our Friday Scroungers, Pest Works Scroungers in appreciation and recognition of their contribution to the club.

Scotty Fawkes Day now to be held on the Wednesday Evening of the 19th November.

Once again, the excellent status of our greens and surrounds is a credit to Roy Gesch and Dave Burgess.

● Bar Managers Report It was decided that we would slowly reduce our bottle range of drinks which are not turning over. This will reduce wastage from product going out of use by dates.

● Club Maintenance Graeme Glover is to purchase a new Microwave and Boiling Jug for the club. It was decided that the roof of the club will have to be attended to in time. It was suggested we may approach Andrew Wallace for funding assistance on this large project.

● Annual Dinner and Presentation Night End of year celebration and presentation of trophies is to be held on Saturday 1st of December (4 pm start) with nibbles and drinks.

● Defibrillator The club will ask Toni Walters to take on the task of training appropriate members in its use.

● Games Timetables Pest Works Scroungers will cease after the 14th of December, and Wednesday Night Bowls will finish after the 19th of December 2018.

Start up dates are Jan 9th 2019 for Wednesday Bowls and Friday 11th Jan 2019 for Pest Works Scroungers.

● Incident Reports Dennis Kyling advised we now have an updated Incident Investigation report which kept in First Aid Box. He has updated the Dog Owner Responsibility Sheet that will be put up in club house.

● Recycle/Refund Program We discussed the Refund Scheme for bottles and cans and decided to wait until it was up and running properly. Apparently it is not in full use at this time. We can still accumulate our cans and bottles.

● ATO Brett advised that our Auditor has provided a solution to Australian Tax Office (ATO) seeking tax returns since 2001.

● AGM & Membership Fees We will advise all via the newsletter and e-mails that the AGM is to be held on the 16th of February 2019 and fees are due by the end of December, 2018. Full Members are Affiliation Fee plus $10.00 and Social Membership stays at $10.00 per person.

● 5 Year Strategic Plan Brett to provide Board Members with a single page 5 Year Strategic Plan for discussion at next month’s board meeting. secretary@malenybowlsclub.com.au

Our annual spectacular event was held on Thursday 8 November 2018.

As the name suggests prizes on the day are homemade plum puddings that are famous in the region. We rely on the cooking talents of members and local volunteers who methodically create these sought after gems that attract a full green of visiting bowlers.

We received very positive feedback from those attending in regards to the state of our green playing surface as well as the fabulous lunch prepared by our amazing volunteers. Huge thanks to all involved.

It’s all about families having fun together – and it’s FREE entry for all!

Show Bags: Provided by Maleny Lions to each family at the entrance tent. Make sure you have interesting and informative take-home info for these at your stall, for visitors to collect; include giveaways for kids and flyers for your upcoming important events/fundraisers– free advertising!

Passports and Stamps: Lions will give ‘Passports’ to families at the entrance gate; we will provide the stamps to you on the day to use at your display stall. This means families have to visit every display to be eligible for the prizes; all passports must be returned to Lions entrance tent by 11.00 am to go into the prize draw at 11.15 am.

Maleny Bowls Club has purchased a Defibrillator through the fantastic support of Maleny Supa IGA and Les & LInda from Maleny Paint Supplies who have each donated $500 towards this initiative.

CPR, Cardio (heart) Pulmonary (lung) Resuscitation, combines compressing the heart to circulate blood to all the vital organs and, at the same time, breathing into the victim to supply oxygen.

The 500P defibrillator provides the rescuer with real-time instructions regarding compressions with audible “Good Compressions” or “Push Harder,” “Push Faster” and “Push Slower.” These instructions also are displayed on the face of the device in order to ensure the rescuer performs the most effective CPR. After being instructed to “Begin CPR,” an audible beep for the appropriate cadence will help the rescuer keep time when performing compressions. The objective during CPR using the 500P is to hear “Good Compressions” and to see green on the CPR indicator.
