Lung​ ​Foundation​ ​Australia​ ​the​ ​Winner!

A​ ​seamless​ ​transition​ ​from​ ​cricket​ ​to​ ​bowls​ ​saw​ ​a​ ​great​ ​afternoon​ ​of fundraising​ ​at​ ​the​ ​Maleny​ ​Bowls​ ​Club​​ ​on​ ​Saturday.​ ​With​ ​the​ ​2​ ​captains and​ ​their​ ​teams​ ​equally​ ​determined​ ​to​ ​win​ ​the​ ​coveted​ ​Golden​ ​Thong Trophy,​ ​the​ ​real​ ​winner​ ​on​ ​the​ ​day​ ​was​ ​Lung​ ​Foundation​ ​Australia​.

Valuable​ ​research​ ​funds​ ​were​ ​raised​ ​on​ ​their​ ​behalf,​ ​thanks​ ​to​ ​the​ ​efforts of​ ​the​ ​players​ ​and​ ​the​ ​Bowls​ ​Club.​ ​With​ ​scores​ ​teetering​ ​back​ ​and​ ​forth throughout​ ​the​ ​games,​ ​defending​ ​trophy​ ​holders​ ​Captain​ ​Simon​ ​Denver and​ ​his​ ​Maleny​ ​Maulers​ ​could​ ​not​ ​hang​ ​on,​ ​much​ ​to​ ​the​ ​delight​ ​of Captain​ ​Andrew​ ​Powell​ ​and​ ​his​ ​Celebrity​ ​Eleven.​ ​With​ ​a​ ​Grand​ ​Final​ ​that saw​ ​every​ ​player​ ​given​ ​one​ ​last​ ​bowl​ ​each,​ ​it​ ​was​ ​Marty​ ​Hunt​ ​-​ ​LNP Candidate​ ​for​ ​Nicklin​ ​who​ ​sent​ ​down​ ​the​ ​winning​ ​bowl​ ​for​ ​the​ ​Celebrity Eleven​ ​that​ ​pulled​ ​up​ ​closest​ ​to​ ​the​ ​jack.​ ​MDSRC​ ​sponsored​ ​the​ ​day, with​ ​President​ ​Greg​ ​Williams​​ ​praising​ ​the​ ​venue​ ​as​ ​much​ ​as​ ​the​ ​contest itself​ ​“The​ ​Maleny​ ​Bowls​ ​Club​ ​members​ ​made​ ​it​ ​a​ ​really​ ​fun​ ​day​ ​for everyone,​ ​providing​ ​a​ ​warm​ ​welcome,​ ​coaching,​ ​great​ ​games,​ ​raffles and​ ​a​ ​fabulous​ ​gourmet​ ​afternoon​ ​tea.​ ​It’s​ ​a​ ​terrific​ ​way​ ​to​ ​fund​ ​raise​ ​for any​ ​club”​ ​he​ ​said.​ ​So​ ​next​ ​time​ ​you're​ ​in​ ​Andrew​ ​Powell’s​ ​electoral office,​ ​look​ ​out​ ​for​ ​his​ ​hard​ ​won​ ​Golden​ ​Thong​ ​Trophy​ ​in​ ​pride​ ​of​ ​place!

Items​ ​discussed​ ​and​ ​actioned​ ​include: ● Notice​ ​Board New​ ​notice​ ​board​ ​has​ ​been​ ​purchased​ ​and​ ​will​ ​be​ ​professionally signwrighted​ ​to​ ​include​ ​club​ ​details​ ​and​ ​fixture​ ​details​ ​before​ ​being installed​.

● Health​ ​&​ ​Safety Procedures​ ​and​ ​manuals​ ​pertaining​ ​to​ ​various​ ​aspects​ ​of​ ​health and​ ​safety,​ ​fire​ ​compliance​ ​and​ ​duty​ ​of​ ​care​ ​were​ ​tabled​ ​and adopted

● New​ ​Club​ ​Shirts With​ ​limited​ ​response​ ​from​ ​members​ ​towards​ ​adopting​ ​a​ ​new​ ​club uniform​ ​it​ ​was​ ​decided​ ​to​ ​suspend​ ​action​ ​until​ ​we​ ​receive​ ​further requests​ ​for​ ​change.

● Scottie​ ​Fawkes​ ​Memorial​ ​Day Now​ ​designated​ ​for​ ​4th​ ​Nov,​ ​10​ ​for​ ​10:30,​ ​2​ ​x​ ​12​ ​ends,​ ​Triples,​ ​Club selected​ ​players,​ ​$15.00​ ​entry​ ​and​ ​invitation​ ​be​ ​extended​ ​to​ ​Kilcoy, Woodford​ ​and​ ​Mapleton​ ​bowls​ ​clubs. ● Maleny​ ​Bowls​ ​Club​ ​Mobile​ ​App It​ ​was​ ​agreed​ ​for​ ​us​ ​to​ ​have​ ​a​ ​3​ ​month​ ​trial​ ​period​ ​to​ ​evaluate​ ​its success,​ ​and​ ​to​ ​be​ ​cost​ ​neutral​ ​to​ ​the​ ​Club.​ ​Contractual​ ​documents to​ ​be​ ​agreed​ ​on​ ​by​ ​the​ ​club,​ ​headed​ ​by​ ​Graeme​ ​and​ ​Brett.

● North​ ​Brisbane​ ​Bowls​ ​Club​ ​Visit We​ ​generally​ ​had​ ​very​ ​positive​ ​comments​ ​from​ ​the​ ​visitation​ ​club, North​ ​Brisbane​ ​Bowls​ ​Club​ ​on​ ​Sunday,​ ​8th​ ​October​ ​regarding​ ​our green​ ​and​ ​facilities.​ ​All​ ​enjoyed​ ​the​ ​visit​ ​and​ ​will​ ​return​ ​next​ ​year.

● Bar​ ​Extension The​ ​original​ ​contractor​ ​has​ ​had​ ​to​ ​refuse​ ​our​ ​project​ ​as​ ​he​ ​has​ ​won a​ ​much​ ​larger​ ​project.​ ​Jim​ ​has​ ​sourced​ ​another​ ​contractor​ ​who​ ​will work​ ​in​ ​with​ ​the​ ​club​ ​and​ ​we​ ​will​ ​source​ ​some​ ​of​ ​the​ ​equipment ourselves,​ ​while​ ​he​ ​does​ ​the​ ​main​ ​work.​ ​We​ ​expect​ ​that​ ​it​ ​will​ ​not increase​ ​our​ ​costs,​ ​while​ ​still​ ​giving​ ​us​ ​what​ ​we​ ​originally​ ​planned for.​ ​We​ ​should​ ​know​ ​the​ ​results​ ​of​ ​the​ ​grant​ ​we​ ​applied​ ​for​ ​in​ ​early November,​ ​and​ ​if​ ​unsuccessful,​ ​plan​ ​to​ ​look​ ​at​ ​sourcing​ ​a​ ​bank​ ​loan to​ ​cover​ ​the​ ​shortfall.

● Bowls​ ​Australia​ ​Rep We​ ​will​ ​be​ ​having​ ​a​ ​meeting​ ​with​ ​the​ ​newly​ ​appointed​ ​Bowls Australia​ ​Rep,​ ​Wade,​ ​Mutzelburg,​ ​Monday​ ​16th​ ​October​ ​at​ ​10​ ​am.

● Volunteers​ ​Queensland At​ ​this​ ​time​ ​we​ ​will​ ​not​ ​join​ ​the​ ​Queensland​ ​Volunteers​ ​Association or​ ​the​ ​Sunshine​ ​Coast​ ​Association​ ​as​ ​we​ ​do​ ​not​ ​have​ ​any​ ​projects or​ ​envisage​ ​any​ ​other​ ​requirements​ ​at​ ​this​ ​time.

The​ ​final​ ​of​ ​the​ ​2017​ ​Scroungers​ ​Challenge​ ​was​ ​contested​ ​between Joseph​ ​Walters,​ ​Ian​ ​Chatterton​ ​and​ ​Ray​ ​Pantlin​ ​over​ ​20​ ​ends.

There​ ​were​ ​some​ ​terrific​ ​bowls​ ​on​ ​show​ ​with​ ​congratulations​ ​to​ ​Ian​ ​who proved​ ​too​ ​consistent​ ​and​ ​won​ ​the​ ​coveted​ ​competition.

We​ ​would​ ​like​ ​to​ ​thank​ ​Allan​ ​Cook,​ ​Doug​ ​McGufficke​ ​and​ ​Miles​ ​Allen​ ​for running​ ​a​ ​very​ ​popular​ ​Friday​ ​afternoon​ ​competition​ ​this​ ​season.

Scroungers​ ​will​ ​continue​ ​to​ ​be​ ​played​ ​for​ ​the​ ​rest​ ​of​ ​the​ ​year​ ​each​ ​Friday 2:30pm​ ​for​ ​3pm​ ​start​ ​with​ ​visitors​ ​and​ ​novices​ ​most​ ​welcome​ ​to​ ​play.

​ ​Faye's​ ​Classic​ ​Christmas​ ​Plum​ ​Pudding​ ​Recipe

1​ ​and​ ​1/2lb,​ ​mixed​ ​fruit 2​ ​cups​ ​brown​ ​sugar 2​ ​tbsps​ ​plum​ ​jam 2​ ​cups​ ​dates 4​ ​oz​ ​butter (chopped​ ​to​ ​sultana 2​ ​cups​ ​water size)

Ingredients:

4​ ​tsp​ ​carb,​ ​soda 4​ ​cups​ ​plain​ ​flour 2​ ​tsp​ ​mixed​ ​spice 1​ ​cup​ ​rum

Place​ ​first​ ​6​ ​ingredients​ ​into​ ​saucepan​ ​and​ ​simmer​ ​until​ ​syrupy.​ ​Remove from​ ​heat.​ ​Add​ ​bicarb​ ​soda​ ​and​ ​stir​ ​well.​ ​Allow​ ​to​ ​cool.

When​ ​cool​ ​add​ ​plain​ ​flour,​ ​mixed​ ​spice​ ​and​ ​rum.​ ​Stir​ ​well.

Spoon​ ​into​ ​steamer​ ​leaving​ ​at​ ​least​ ​an​ ​inch​ ​or​ ​2​ ​ ​space​ ​at​ ​top.

Cover​ ​with​ ​ ​2​ ​or​ ​3​ ​sheets​ ​of​ ​plastic​ ​wrap​ ​tied​ ​securely​ ​around rim​ ​of​ ​bowl​ ​and​ ​steam​ ​for​ ​4​ ​hours​ ​large​ ​pudding​ ​and​ ​3​ ​hours​ ​for medium​ ​-​ ​small​ ​size.​ ​ ​Check​ ​water​ ​level​ ​in​ ​saucepan​ ​regularly and​ ​if​ ​necessary,​ ​top​ ​up​ ​with​ ​boiling​ ​water.

When​ ​cooked,​ ​remove​ ​pudding​ ​from​ ​bowl,​ ​allow​ ​to​ ​become​ ​cold,​ ​then wrap​ ​pudding​ ​in​ ​glad​ ​wrap​ ​or​ ​alfoil​ ​and​ ​store​ ​in​ ​fridge​ ​or​ ​freezer.
