Our​ ​monthly​ ​Board​ ​meeting​ ​was​ ​held​ ​on​ ​Monday​ ​11th​ ​September​ ​2017 with​ ​Kay​ ​Gesch,​ ​Jim​ ​King,​ ​Dennis​ ​Kyling,​ ​Joe​ ​Walters​ ​and​ ​Brett​ ​Gillis​ ​in attendance.

Items​ ​discussed​ ​and​ ​actioned​ ​include: Bar​ ​Extension An​ ​application​ ​for​ ​an​ ​additional​ ​$12,000​ ​grant​ ​to​ ​carry​ ​out​ ​bar​ ​extension was​ ​submitted​ ​to​ ​Sunshine​ ​Coast​ ​Regional​ ​Council​ ​on​ ​August​ ​28th.

Jim​ ​is​ ​going​ ​to​ ​firm​ ​up​ ​the​ ​price​ ​for​ ​the​ ​upgrade,​ ​and​ ​book​ ​in​ ​the​ ​work for​ ​the​ ​2nd​ ​week​ ​in​ ​November.​ ​Subject​ ​to​ ​the​ ​results​ ​of​ ​the​ ​latest​ ​grant, the​ ​possibility​ ​that​ ​the​ ​club​ ​may​ ​go​ ​for​ ​a​ ​loan​ ​to​ ​make​ ​up​ ​the​ ​shortfall​ ​is being​ ​considered.​ ​Jim​ ​to​ ​present​ ​options​ ​for​ ​a​ ​decision​ ​at​ ​October meeting.

Friday​ ​Night​ ​Bowls It​ ​was​ ​decided​ ​not​ ​to​ ​proceed​ ​with​ ​this​ ​–​ ​no​ ​Friday​ ​night​ ​bowls​.

Maleny​ ​Visitor​ ​Information​ ​Centre New​ ​Rack​ ​Cards​ ​design​ ​circulated​ ​with​ ​modifications​ ​to​ ​be​ ​made​ ​ ​and presented​ ​to​ ​the​ ​October​ ​meeting​ ​for​ ​approval​ ​prior​ ​to​ ​going​ ​to​ ​print.

Corporate​ ​Events​ ​ ​ ​(Local​ ​Businesses​ ​) Joe​ ​and​ ​Brett​ ​will​ ​prepare​ ​a​ ​flyer​ ​to​ ​present​ ​to​ ​the​ ​October​ ​meeting​ ​with regards​ ​to​ ​getting​ ​more​ ​Corporate​ ​Events​ ​into​ ​the​ ​club.

Greens​ ​Shade​ ​Cloth​ ​Shades It​ ​was​ ​decided​ ​to​ ​change​ ​the​ ​east​ ​and​ ​west​ ​shade​ ​curtains​ ​to​ ​the​ ​same style​ ​as​ ​the​ ​North​ ​ones.​ ​eg,​ ​central​ ​wires​ ​and​ ​cable​ ​ties,​ ​making​ ​the covers​ ​permanent,​ ​not​ ​movable,​ ​as​ ​there​ ​is​ ​no​ ​grass​ ​now​ ​to​ ​worry​ ​about shade​ ​from​ ​sun​ ​affecting​ ​same.

Our​ ​annual​ ​spectacular​ ​event​ ​will​ ​be​ ​held​ ​Thursday​ ​8​ ​November​ ​2017​.

As​ ​the​ ​name​ ​suggests​ ​prizes​ ​on​ ​the​ ​day​ ​are​ ​home​ ​made​ ​plum​ ​puddings that​ ​are​ ​famous​ ​in​ ​the​ ​region.​ ​We​ ​rely​ ​on​ ​the​ ​cooking​ ​talents​ ​of​ ​members and​ ​local​ ​volunteers​ ​who​ ​methodically​ ​create​ ​these​ ​sought​ ​after​ ​gems that​ ​attract​ ​a​ ​full​ ​green​ ​of​ ​visiting​ ​bowlers.

​ ​Faye's​ ​Classic​ ​Christmas​ ​Plum​ ​Pudding​ ​Recipe

1​ ​and​ ​1/2lb,​ ​mixed​ ​fruit 2​ ​cups​ ​brown​ ​sugar 2​ ​tbsps​ ​plum​ ​jam 2​ ​cups​ ​dates 4​ ​oz​ ​butter (chopped​ ​to​ ​sultana 2​ ​cups​ ​water size)

Ingredients:

4​ ​tsp​ ​carb,​ ​soda 4​ ​cups​ ​plain​ ​flour 2​ ​tsp​ ​mixed​ ​spice 1​ ​cup​ ​rum

Place​ ​first​ ​6​ ​ingredients​ ​into​ ​saucepan​ ​and​ ​simmer​ ​until​ ​syrupy.​ ​Remove from​ ​heat.​ ​Add​ ​bicarb​ ​soda​ ​and​ ​stir​ ​well.​ ​Allow​ ​to​ ​cool.

When​ ​cool​ ​add​ ​plain​ ​flour,​ ​mixed​ ​spice​ ​and​ ​rum.​ ​Stir​ ​well.

Spoon​ ​into​ ​steamer​ ​leaving​ ​at​ ​least​ ​an​ ​inch​ ​or​ ​2​ ​ ​space​ ​at​ ​top.

Cover​ ​with​ ​ ​2​ ​or​ ​3​ ​sheets​ ​of​ ​plastic​ ​wrap​ ​tied​ ​securely​ ​around rim​ ​of​ ​bowl​ ​and​ ​steam​ ​for​ ​4​ ​hours​ ​large​ ​pudding​ ​and​ ​3​ ​hours​ ​for medium​ ​-​ ​small​ ​size.​ ​ ​Check​ ​water​ ​level​ ​in​ ​saucepan​ ​regularly and​ ​if​ ​necessary,​ ​top​ ​up​ ​with​ ​boiling​ ​water.

When​ ​cooked,​ ​remove​ ​pudding​ ​from​ ​bowl,​ ​allow​ ​to​ ​become​ ​cold,​ ​then wrap​ ​pudding​ ​in​ ​glad​ ​wrap​ ​or​ ​alfoil​ ​and​ ​store​ ​in​ ​fridge​ ​or​ ​freezer.

​​ Andrew​ ​Powell’s​ ​Celebrity​ ​Eleven,​ ​and​ ​Simon​ ​Denver’s​ ​Maleny​ ​Maulers will​ ​once​ ​again​ ​be​ ​showing​ ​off​ ​their​ ​bowling​ ​skills​ ​-​ ​but​ ​in​ ​2017​ ​it​ ​will​ ​be at​ ​the​ ​Maleny​ ​Bowls​ ​Club​ ​-​ ​for​ ​Extreme​ ​Lawn​ ​Bowls.

MDSRC​ ​are​ ​again​ ​sponsoring​ ​this​ ​fundraiser​ ​with​ ​all​ ​Proceeds​ ​raised being​ ​donated​ ​to​ ​ALF​ ​and​ ​big​ ​thank​ ​you​ ​to​ ​the​ ​Maleny​ ​Bowls​ ​Club​ ​for not​ ​charging​ ​any​ ​venue​ ​hire.

Suggested​ ​format​ ​of: The​ ​2​ ​teams​ ​start​ ​at​ ​noon, play​ ​teams​ ​of​ ​4’s​ ​-​ ​3​ ​x​ ​4​ ​for Maulers,​ ​3​ ​x​ ​4​ ​for​ ​AP.​ ​This will​ ​take​ ​up​ ​3​ ​rinks.

Remaining​ ​5​ ​rinks​ ​are​ ​for everyone​ ​else​ ​who​ ​want​ ​a game​ ​too​ ​-​ ​so​ ​more​ ​games, more​ ​funds​ ​for​ ​ALF. All​ ​players​ ​play​ ​12​ ​ends,​ ​then break​ ​for​ ​afternoon​ ​tea​ ​at 1.30​ ​pm Play​ ​remaining​ ​ends,​ ​leading to​ ​a​ ​Grand​ ​Final​ ​between one​ ​team​ ​of​ ​4​ ​each​ ​from​ ​AP and​ ​Simon.

Silly​ ​fines​ ​will​ ​be​ ​announced randomly​ ​throughout​ ​play (by​ ​bowls​ ​club)​ ​that​ ​will​ ​add more​ ​funds​ ​for​ ​ALF​ ​-​ ​fine​ ​for hitting​ ​the​ ​jack,​ ​for​ ​bowling​ ​into​ ​the​ ​ditch​ ​etc.

They​ ​will​ ​put​ ​together​ ​“Mystery​ ​Raffles”​ ​for​ ​us​ ​too​ ​so​ ​don’t​ ​forget​ ​your spare​ ​change.

The​ ​Board​ ​has​ ​approved​ ​a​ ​change​ ​in​ ​starting​ ​time​ ​for​ ​Tuesday​ ​morning bowls​ ​to​ ​8.00​ ​for​ ​an​ ​8.30​ ​start.

The​ ​format​ ​will​ ​generally​ ​be​ ​2-4-2​ ​if​ ​playing​ ​pairs.

Members​ ​and​ ​visiting​ ​bowlers​ ​welcome.

Maleny​ ​Bowls​ ​Club​ ​is​ ​a​ ​terrific​ ​venue​ ​to​ ​host​ ​a​ ​children’s​ ​birthday​ ​party with​ ​lawn​ ​bowls​ ​being​ ​an​ ​inclusive​ ​activity​ ​for​ ​all​ ​those​ ​attending.

Venue​ ​hire​ ​is​ ​$50​ ​for​ ​each​ ​2​ ​hours​ ​or​ ​part​ ​thereof​ ​which​ ​includes​ ​use​ ​of kitchen​ ​facilities​ ​and​ ​bowls​ ​instruction/coaching.
