“The Ekka is Coming - & so is COVID!” Chief health o cer, Dr John Gerrard said that it was unlikely a mask mandate would be introduced and that the waves of Covid would continue for some time, but said the Ekka would still go ahead. The Royal Queensland Show (Ekka) is Queensland's largest and most loved annual event, attracting on average 400,000 people. It is run by the RNA and staged at its original birthplace, the Brisbane Showgrounds’. The Ekka brings the country and city together for a true celebration of agriculture and will be staged between the 6th and 14th August. Public transport is one of the easiest and most ef cient ways to get to Ekka. Trains arrive and depart from Exhibition Station right in the middle of the Brisbane Showgrounds and dedicated Ekka buses stop close to entry gates. The rst 'Royal' Show was held in 1921, when the Association was granted the pre x under warrant from His Majesty King George V. The Ekka has since been held every year since with only four exceptions - in 1919 due to the
Covid Infections With infections remaining at around 8,000 per day in Queensland, the Ekka will follow relevant state and federal health guidelines to keep visitors safe. Who remembers when show bags were once known as "sample bags" as they originally contained product samples of household goods such as soap or canned foods, produced by a single vendor or a group of vendors. Such sample bags were originally given away free of charge or carried only a nominal price in order to promote brand awareness.
